Near textbook example of a late main gybe in light air. We needed to blow the working sheet faster (less resistance on gybe) and that spin trimmer needed to quit making ugly faces. Positively, there were no heads in the way for the boom to crack when it came over and we lost only half knot of boat speed! Most importantly - that rockstar foredeck made it look easy!!
@18thhoursailingКүн бұрын
@pauldavidbell haha, i was like well that is rude about the spin trimmer. But then said, hey wait

What I loved about that jibe was that the spinny was completed filled before the main was jibed.

Not asking specifically, but generally, how does compensation work for boat delivery crew jobs? What’s the pay range? Is it based on the boat size, length of passage, number of crew, your experience? I’m thinking about doing this in the future.
@18thhoursailing4 күн бұрын
We did this for the fun of it. But generally, for sailboats, a captain would get $400 to $500 per day for transport. Crew, if paid, is usually paid a dollar a mile. Good captains with a known repuatation can make some really good money

Ive made this trip a couple times solo. I aways go WAY out around the oil patch. Less rigs, less support boats, less shrimp boats and less stress. Some of the larger rigs even have cell phone signal you can mooch off of and you can use it to make calls and send texts.

That 03 boat yelling starboard and telling cam boat to come up had no rights as no overlap existed
@18thhoursailing29 күн бұрын
You are correct on this statement, but he did achieve overlap right as he was about to collide with us. So my ruling would be that he could have protested us for not tacking at that time. Which we did not do because it would have forced us into potential contact with the committee boat/finishing mark. Thanks for thw comment
@PaulHarris-sl1ct29 күн бұрын

Totally the windward boats fault. Trimming the jib in with the main luffing means you did not even attempt to avoid the collision.
