J pole antenna is taking shortcuts in the final operation. Never understood the J Pole design why people love it so much, its provides marginal gain over a quarter-wave ground-plane antenna and in real world test the J-Pole even has a loss over a quarter-wave ground-plane antenna. (also they are not real omni-directional as on paper) What are your thoughts on this?

I`ve got an ELU router too and had to change the upper bearing. It would have been very interesting to see how he took the bearings out of the body and special the upper one from the shaft. the same in assambling. when it became interesting the video speed increases to an terrible speed. conclusion: not very useful video for repair description.

👍I think you worked it out. These Pixie kits transmit a very low level carrier in RX mode, just above the TX frequency. It is because the TX power output transistor is being used as a multiplier (mixer) in RX mode.

I've just got hold of a redcrest here in NZ of the same vintage 1979. It had been in storage for years but didn't have any leaks or patches. The rear valve had been replaced with a newer type used on the more recent Avons. Had a slow leak in the inflatable seat valve. A squirt of WD40 loosened up the spring and is now sealed. I had a similar Redcrest as a tender to my sailing vessel for 6 years which survived many a bashing on rocks, shingle, concrete piers and attacks by local kids in various parts of the globe hell bent on its destruction.

Well, "back in the day" (horrible phrase), Elu weren't just "relatively good quality" - they really were the best routers on the market. BTW, the MOF96e shown was an 8mm router not a 1/4in, although many of thiose supplied in the UK came with a 1/4in (6.35mm) collet instead. Bearings for the MOF96 are still under a tenner in 2023, so not really a killer if they fail, but you do need a bit of technical nous to do the bearing swap.

I just got a this same boat. The valves are different on mine. They a steal and have little rubber plugs inside the screw on caps. To inflate, you unscrew the vales a turn or two and put the pump to it. Then, simply tighten them and the hold the airpressure.

You have defeated all the “Safety” features by working two-handed. The guy who owns Super Split always says that any hand related accident he has heard of was the result of working two-handed, as in two people. People lose coordination and a hand gets trapped. Super Split is a universally lauded American kinetic splitter. If you look at one in operation, there is no second handle to occupy both hands and logs are manoeuvred on the table by being held midway along their length. Logs can be projected off at an angle, and standing near the motor is recommended to avoid leg injury. No idea where this is made, but it looks like a piece of Chinese tat!

Nice fix. Another good tip is when you know you're putting them away for a while always make sure that the last time you fill and run them is with the factory produced pre-mixed fuel, not the stuff you mix yourself. I put Motomix in when i store mine for long periods and they start first time, every time when I go to use them again.

That choke coil needs to be 4 windings at 12.7 cm diameter (5"). You've got about 12 windings there. I really think that has adversely affected the other dimensions. Which, by the way, should actually be 147.69 cm for the radiating element, 49.02 cm for the tuning stub, 4.61 cm for the spacing between them, and 4.82 cm for the feed point matching dimension. I think if you make those changes, you should be in the ballpark for a fairly flat SWR across the band, with the lowest reading at 145.5 MHz. Also...the spacing between the two elements needs to be exactly 4.61 cm all the way along. Rather important. I have seen PVC tubing used as a spacer, or heat and bend them to the correct distance. Great video, though, because variations are in the realm of experimentation, and the results were fascinating. Thank you, and 73! NO8Z.

Thanks for your input. I had 4 turns on 2" plastic pipe as a choke as seen when I first measure the vswr which is about right for 2m vhf. 15 turns on 4" pipe is ok for 20m hf, it was the only piece of coax to hand. A coax choke should not effect anything other than common mode current as far as I'm aware. Your dimensions are within 0.5mm of mine initially but it didn't work for me, hence the faffing about, that's radio I guess....
@ordyy89
@ordyy89 Ай бұрын
When measuring all the lengths and spacing do we measure to the outside edge of the copper pipe or the inside lengths. He mentions this question in the video and is a very confusing topic as some plans call for outside measurements and some inside but associated calculators generate the same numbers.

Great video. nice to see some wood processing content. I agree that the guards are always a pain and should be removed, but one caveat to that is make sure you're wearing the correct PPE because sometimes a log will explode outwards into your legs and/or feet so I wear my rubber chainsaw boots and protective pants over them to prevent any injuries when using my splitter. I got the shudders when the lady was using it wearing just leggings. One of those logs could have taken her knee cap off, yikes. I've got a 6 ton splitter here in Canada and can get through a lot of wood with it in a day so they're cool pieces of equipment for sure.

You confirmed my experiment. My 017 is my favorite limbing saw. I traded out the .043 for a .050 just because I think the bigger kerf is more forgiving or visible with movement so you’re less likely to pinch your bar in the tree. I also thought putting a 7 on would make it faster/better, but the standard 6 is still the best for this one. That GB bar you have is sexxxy though!
