Under conditions when you can’t measure your kick exactly if you mess with the hill and hit the side of your foot you will snap your ankle but flat footed you will not

Do you have any tips for hitting better sideways with the heels like flexibility in the hips which i think is stopping me from using my heel like that

Is there a Korean term for the sweep kick found in #13?
@dougboal76208 күн бұрын
In Chung Do Kwan training many years ago the front thrust kick was executed in a somewhat different manner. The hips were not turned as much so as to keep the body centered, to prevent overextension, and possibly losing balance. Also the body would lean more forward into the kick, by being more vertical from tightening the core muscles, driving the fists downward to the rear on each side. The body weight moving forward added to the power of the kick.

When learning martial arts years ago, my master instructor, taught me a very important rule. When a student stands with both feet on the floor, 100% of balance is attained. When one foot is raised off the floor, and assisted by technique, even then the maximum balance that can be attained is only 50%. When both feet are off the floor, then there is no balance attained, and it's only technique that prevents the student from falling.

Jump kicks are very powerful. But beware as they leave you vulnerable to being swept.

As a student in the 1960's of Chung Do Kwan (Tae Kwon Do), and years later an instructor, I would like to make a suggestion concerning board breaking. The students holding the boards cross the rear legs which i believe is correct. But i would make the front stance deeper but more importantly hand position. What i observed was each holder had their arms, holding the top and bottom, on the same of the board(s). I submit to keep their top arms in the same position, but to cross the bottom arms over to the opposite corner, forming an "X". This will increase strength and structure to the stance. Also, to bend the head down, turning it to the outside, so as to avoid being struck in the face by flying boards. When the student preparing to complete the break, upon the loud kiap, that was the signal for the holders to lock the arms, tighten the stance, preparing for the breaking attempt. We were taught holding the boards, was an honor and an art, within itself. Just food for thought.

If it's against someone your own size/strength or smaller then, yes. But if it's against someone larger and stronger than you, then no. The reason being, if you've got a guy that much bigger, focused on choking the life out of you, it's going to be next to impossible to remove his hands from your throat unless you do some sort of distraction to take his focus away. When my old instructor taught self-defense techniques, he would always tell us to do a stomp to the foot, shin kick, a feint/flicker to the eyes, etc.
