Hey buddy, thanks for watching and commenting. The far margin did well for us and also the left margin. I was fishing to the right so I was in open water mostly and I did alright. I cast as far as I could into the middle without catching the tree. We used Parker baits pellet in PVA bags with Parker wafters (OG nut) and Parker boilies (OG nut and fish). I used the fish/nut sauce in the bag as well. This time of year they’re feeding a bit more so I would try bigger baits and bigger pellets. All the best buddy - hope you do well. Enjoy it is a nice little swim… 👍🏻🎣

Hi Colin - unlike other digital scales, the Fox ones don’t show the sling weight (-2.9, for example). You turn on the scales, add the sling and then hit the zero button. When the scales are flashing 0.0 they are zeroed and ready. All the fish weighed in this video have been properly weighed with the sling weight deducted, including Matt’s PB carp. Candles give off carbon monoxide too. The case looks good and all that, and will produce a lot of heat. But when burning multiple tea lights, you’re going to get carbon monoxide; it’s unavoidable. You’ll have to make sure your bivvy is well ventilated, in the exact same way that you would have to when using a gas stove, or heater. Sorry, mate, but that’s not a good idea. I noticed someone mentioned diesel heaters, but even the expensive brands can be very dangerous too.
@WelshCarpers
@WelshCarpers 3 ай бұрын
Yes, candles do give off carbon monoxide and I have looked into this a little further. Thank you for the info. I will pin your message for now. Until now, I have always been fine with my sleeping bag and a hot water bottle, but carbon monoxide is not something to mess with. I believe you can purchase candles that produce low carbon monoxide but I'm not sure that is even worth the risk. I will do some more research. Thanks, and thanks for watching.
@CymruCelt01
@CymruCelt01 3 ай бұрын
@@WelshCarpers no problem at all mate. The only candles I know of that give off less carbon monoxide are those made from coconut wax. But like you say, it’s not worth the risk. Nash used to sell their own version a few years ago, with the selling point being it didn’t even set off a carbon monoxide alarm. But those carbon monoxide alarms are not a good gauge at all. Simply because, if there’s enough carbon monoxide in a bivvy to set off an alarm, you’ve already breathed in too much. The Nash version has since been withdrawn and discontinued, and I’m not surprised. I actually got into a discussion about the safety of gas heaters in a bivvy with Jimmy Armstrong on Facebook. I pointed out that they’re too much of a hazard and shouldn’t be used. Jimmy’s reply was, he has a CO alarm. So I pointed out that if the alarm is set off, you’ve already breathed in too much carbon monoxide. Less than two weeks after I gave that warning, a carp angler died of carbon monoxide poisoning on the bank. I’m not that fond of hot water bottles either, because I had to give first aid to another angler whose hot water bottle burst. The burns he suffered were horrific! I will never forget the screams. What I do is, I place a hot water bottle in the sleeping bag to warm it up, then, I leave the bottle outside.

They're not as hot as a gas heater, nowhere near - but it's about keeping anglers safe. Gas heaters are deadly! @@WelshCarpers at what temperature? They’ll make no difference what so ever bellow 0. I never mentioned anything about a gas heater. I use a diesel heater. Far better than candles which I have tryed in the past and done nothing. A fancy case for them isn’t going to make any difference
@WelshCarpers
@WelshCarpers 4 ай бұрын
@@user-li8vl9tm4h No but there are anglers who do use gas heaters. Diesel heaters are expensive and loud, and require power and diesel - most of them are heavy and quite big. I've used tea light heaters before and felt the benefit in cold temperatures. The case is irrelevant, these heaters are available in black and stainless steel. A 5 season sleeping bag and a hot water bottle is enough normally, but a tea light heater will definitely take the chill out of the bivvy. This tea light heater is small enough to pack in with my gear without being a burden. Thanks for watching. Tight lines.

Can anyone confirm that this scale has a hold function? This is not mentioned and cannot be seen in videos. related question, does the hold function work quickly enough when you weigh a fish with both hands (without 3 legs)? Please let us know, thx!
@WelshCarpers
@WelshCarpers 6 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching our video and for your question. I'm not sure what you mean by a 'hold' function, but I have used these scales for a while now and they have been excellent, I'm happy to recommend them. If you use them as demonstrated in the video there is plenty of time to zero the scales, place the fish in your sling and then take your fish, in the sling, to weigh on the scales. The scales can be used with or without a tripod. I hope this answers your question. Ian.
@frederikvanlerberghe7327

@@WelshCarpers What I mean by the hold function: if you hang the sling on the weigher and once the scale indicates the correct weight, the weight remains on the display, even after removing the weighing sling. My scale now gives a signal and "hold" appears on the display along with the correct weight. So you can take off the sling and check again how much the weight was. If I switch the scale off and on again, the last measured weight appears a few seconds before it returns to zero. My scale now has 2 negative points. First of all, the batteries die, even if I don't use them. Secondly, the hold function does not work properly. When I weigh a fish from my hands, the weight keeps fluctuating. I have to use a tripod to see the final weight. I want to buy the Fox Digital Scale but wanted to be sure that it has the 'hold function'. And that it indicates the final weight sufficiently quickly, even when weighing without a tripod.

@@frederikvanlerberghe7327 I have just tested the scales and I cannot see a way to 'hold' the weight - I tried a few button combinations but nothing worked. Hi! Thanks for subscribing. I like the Rippton bait boat - this one is the original Catch X, but upgraded to the 2 hoppers. The GPS and free app is great and works well - it does take a little effort to get used to but once you have worked it out it’s fine. On this trip though I used the boat manually - I didn’t set any ‘spots’. The boat is big! Very big. It does take up a lot of room and can add to the stuff we already take with us on trips. I am considering getting a smaller and lighter boat for trips like this, where I intend to use the boat manually. The battery lasted the 3 days on this trip, but I do have a spare set, which I have had to swap out on similar trips where I have used the boat more. It was very wet and windy on this trip and the boat coped well on the lake. It’s a good boat. Alex has the ND Bait Boat 2 and it compares well. I think the ND probably sways it… The Rippton customer service is excellent. I hope that helps. Ian.

The rubber stem used for the inline lead in this video has been replaced as it was difficult for the lead to slip free in the event of a line snap. It could result in the lead being carried around by the fish, at the end of the leader. I have replaced the stem with a plastic one, which has a wider stem and is easier for the leader to slip through. I have tested that the lead can easily drop, which it can. Always make sure inline leads can drop when your main line snaps. Ian
