Yes, there is a lot of new ideas in the Caro-Kann defense and I am going to try to cover as many variations as possible😉

Very good question! As black I suggest you to take the e4 pawn and just follow the main lines. Your positions should be quite nice and easy to play, but you really need to know the theory!

22:34 "And I think I'm better, here." Why? Your king's less safe than your opponent's, it's going to take you at least two moves to get your Nb8 into the game, and your white-square bishop is bad. ... f5 looked very poor to me -- it weakens the dark squares around your king and gives him e5 for his knight. 27:15 "How did I manage to lose this one?" Same as the first game -- poor development and poor king safety. 29:22 "I think I played this opening very well." Getting your knight and rook stuck on b8 and a8 for the whole game is playing very well?
@forky_chessАй бұрын
The second game was really bad, I wasn't evaluating the position correctly and I made a lot of bad moves not trying to develop my pieces😅
@beeble2003Ай бұрын
Rd2 in the first game seems very dubious. You're already way behind in development, and the rook on d2 and pawn on c3 make it impossible to get your minor pieces out. You say you're a pawn up but, until you can untangle, you're essentially down a bishop, knight and rook.
@forky_chessАй бұрын
Yes I know, Rd2 was a big mistake...

Having studied higher games viz MVL vs Carlsen etc, they can only make draws via correct play?! And in correspondence chess games, opponents have access to extremely powerful computers [alpha zero, stockfish etc] as well as HUGE databases [many millions of games!!] plus oodles of time to study and check out moves! So...this variation of the Lopez may well be on the decline and only any value in rapid, or OTB games. In fact, in corres games, there are huge numbers of draws cropping up everywhere and some tournaments show all players coming FIRST EQUAL BECAUSE ALL GAMES HAVE BEEN DRAWN?! [I have even seen cases of a 1650 player drawing versus a Grandmaster [2500+] through the use of computers etc].I'm beginning to wonder what chess is coming to in the long run!

I totally agree with you! Now adays openings have become really crucial if you want to play on the highest level! Off course that means more memorization and opening theory to know and remember but what can we do? I try to help chess enthusiasts to know their openings with my videos!

Thank you. Great video. If I can ask a suggestion, please try not to end your sentences on a higher note. Your English is very good. Ending many of your sentences on a high note is like listening to music that does not resolve or a drum beat that is syncopated. It's more natural to end every sentence in English by dropping the note. Thanks for considering it.

I'm really enjoying your content. But, can you please not end all your sentences on a rising note. If possible, can you cover how the Ruy Lopez is refuted and its weaknesses. Thank you.
@forky_chess2 ай бұрын
Of course! All my theory videos are supposed to help players with both colors. There is no refutation to the Ruy Lopez but in advance I am going to cover some tricky variations for black to try and beat the Ruy Lopez.

13:25 at this point I am curious, when you fork the queen and bishop, why would you not consider just taking the bishop instead of retreating the knight?
@forky_chess3 ай бұрын
That is a great question thank you! This knight is very active and its nice defensive piece, so it is bad to trade with an undeveloped light-squared bishop! Without your knight its kinda hard to defend your king as well!
