Hi Dave. Also Canadian, I started watched your content 7 years ago when I moved to Tokyo, turns out I also left Japan around same time as you, now discovering the middle east. Large overlap with the things I myself miss from Japan. Yeah, convenience and efficiency is 2 levels above anywhere else, especially when it comes to public transport. I miss washlet, doing without it is an art form that I happily lost while in Japan... Next August I will miss something that became to me the symbol of Japan: semi, particularily minminsemi... Finally, Japanese fruits have no right to be that delicious. Nice neighborhood, looking forward to watch more!

In Japan when neighbours see someone pick up trash, they bring trashbags to help. In America, they call the police on you.

What a beautiful video and a beautiful message. This topic is so important. It’s something that isn’t discussed enough among expats. I’m abroad and I didn’t think I would make it through my first six weeks. I almost felt like I was out of my body and it wasn’t pleasant. I was depressed, confused, scared and out of sorts. Moving abroad causes emotions that you have never felt before and you don’t know how to deal with them at all. It’s very difficult in the beginning, yet you feel ashamed that you feel that way because it’s all supposed to be so great. Your message is important because the richness of experiences with those you love does get deeper and so do a lot of other things - like learning real gratitude. It’s not an easy experience but now, I have never felt so in touch with life and myself ever. But it’s a journey to get there. However, it does happen. Thanks for this video. I believe it will really help those struggling.

How about (to new permanent resident - wife of a citizen) you can't work here until you redo high school and university and acquire 2 years work experience. Also, you must become a feminist and a liberal and admit that H¡+/€r was communist. Oh. Also, admit that lions aren't the only 'people' who have pride.

Oof, "A great place to raise a family," echoes my goals! We're in Vietnam now, heading out (back) to the States for a few years, but I'll be counting every day that we're State-side until we pack up and set out (back) to Asia ~ Japan is the target destination! I would want to raise my son nowhere else.

2.5 years since I left. I cried like a baby on the plane home. Went back 3 times, but the heart longs for Kyoto no matter what struggles I faced.... I miss it so much. Moving back in 2025. Thank goodness. I miss cocktail bars and train rides through the snowcovered countryside. I miss my friends.

Always better to look poor in most areas than rich in most areas. I learned living in America always to not walk with expensive shit. Even if I could afford it. Cheap clothes, cheap technology (not the newest tech, but old school shit so if you get paid just go buy another cheap one), don't walk around with debit cards (use credit cards instead since easy to cancel), also walk around with a roll of quarters (since brass knuckes are illegal in most places) and yeah, just shit like that. Fucking eh, hope the western world gets a rebound at some point.
@mokisan24 күн бұрын
Thank you mate! I was the one who asked that question. You were one of the first person whose vlog and video i saw when learning about japan specifically alt. So thanks for those! Also why the vietnam video is popular is because a lot of people from us and eu are moving to Vietnam specially to da nang for the cheap lifestyle 😊 Maybe its being recommended more now Always nice to see you pro active in your work, it does give me motivation too mate. Glad everything worked out, hope you get the CMF formyour project 😊

If you spend 60 seconds googling homelessness in Vietnam you might get a better answer. The short version is homeless people are on the city outskirts or finding random work in the countryside and harder to find, and there's less homelessness technically because housing costs are lower and people are willing to put up with stacking much larger numbers of people in much smaller spaces. So 10 people might share a very small apartment with VERY basic living conditions.
