Buon giorno io sono un appassionato dei Maya , quando guardo documentati mi immedesimo nella loro vita quotidiana, loro senza tecnologia avevano conoscenze astrali che noi non sappiamo studiare.....

One of the very few god-worshipping temples in the mayan culture. This exact one is dedicated to the serpent of the nine winds, Kukulkan. But, I think by atleast 2100, If the world hasn't ended then, That all mayan temples and cities will be lost forever, the egyptian pyramids will possibly fall. The roman.. Colloseum? Correct me if i'm wrong about that.) Will have been turned into some shit thing for tourists. Eh, But that might not happen! It could be just like this!

All this building knowledge and invention of the calendar going into the future...aliens had to had given them this knowledge!! They were most likely thought of as the gods by the mayan people.

Very cool, I've always wanted to see this in person, but looks like the crowds are a bit much for my taste. I guess if I do get there I'll go on a less auspicious day. I usually watch videos with the sound muted, I'm glad I chose not to in this case. Love all the comments, especially the ones about how the sun didn't move fast enough, hope if you get there the sun goes into time lapse just for you!

We were disappointed waiting to see the phenomena and what we waited for and wasted our minutes on did not appear. The title was misleading and the images were TOO LONG. Alicia

Carlton Myers Sorry you were disappointed. I hate to break it to you but this is what you'll see if you go. I've been to the equinox a half dozen times over the years and the day depicted in this video was one of the best opportunities to see it. The video is a fair representation of what it's like to be there on that day.

Are you saying you didn't see it in this video or you went and missed it? It's clear as day in this video, actually the best I've ever seen. I was there in 2005. A truly fascinating place.

Is it forbidden to ascend the top?

It is against the rules of INAH, the federal agency in charge of the ruins, yes.

You could still climb the steps when I was there in 2005. I was really surprised they let you, but they have since put a stop to it.

+EJ Albright, I was there on December 2004 and was able to ascend from the outside and also using the stair that is inside to see the statue of the Jaguar

It's the same for a lot of UNESCO and world heritage sites. You're not allowed to climb the Egyptian pyramids, you can't get close to the stone circle at Stonehenge, you can't visit the Lascaux cave paintings in France. It's all done to prevent the public from damaging the sites. The only people that can go anywhere near these sites are Heritage industry officials and archaeologists. Which is good for me because of my interest in ancient and classical civilizations I have a degree in Archaeology and Heritage Studies!! :D

It wasn't in 1983, when we visited Chichén Itzá during our honeymoon in Cancún. The steps are very narrow. I was able to walk up without any help (I was young at that time!), but needed to hold on to the chain as I descended.

My family visited the site as well as many others in the Yucatan over 45 yrs. ago. I was 7 yrs. old and my life was forever changed. Yes the commercialization now is heartbreaking. Ms Siegel, to dismiss interest in Mayan history as propaganda for the gullible is obtuse. I suggest you look into and make a comparison with the Enuma Elish, the Hebrew scriptures and the Popul Vuh as food for thought. My deepest gratitude to Dr. Arthur Demarest who I was most fortunate to study under and untold other scholars who continue to research one of the worlds most fascinating cultures.

I have this on my bucket list! I'm actually pretty shocked at the amount of people there...I never expected it to be such a huge gathering! We were thinking about going in March 2014, but I'm a little worried about getting all the way to Mexico and having them say the trip to Chichen Itza is all booked up. Based on this video, looks like we'd need to book it far in advance. Thanks for sharing :)

They were also very skilled at Sculpture, Painting, Architecture, Engineering, Healthcare, Education, Economics, Ecology, Botanic, they were extremely creative, I don't know why you say they focused most of their intelligence to Astronomy... they were clearly very advanced civilizations if somewhat different to Europeans, they were also very hygienic, something the Europeans at the time definitely were not!

I don't know exactly how they did it. But most of these ancient cultures that existed in Mexico and Central America, focused most of their intelligence on the study of stars, the sun, the moon etc. They weren't really advance in what refers to weapons technology, and that's why they were easily conquered by the Spanish conquistadors. As I said, apparently they were more interested in the study of celestial bodies and they made great progress in that area.

No it's not stupid at all. There other very cool alignments they have done. Simply amazing. My wife and I have been there on one of our cruises and that was the starting point of the Journey Around The Sun: A Mayan Odyssey project so the very music used on the video in part originated there. Pretty cool huh Bill

alguém devia aproveitar um equinócio bem ensolarado para filmar todo o evento de um bom ângulo e com a câmera fixada. Depois era só avançar o video rapidamente para ver a serpente deslizando. Deve ser muito interessante
