Comparing this to the remake, there are so many characters added to the crystal star sequence in the remake.

Mt lavalava is probably the scariest location in the Mario franchise to me… the toxic fumes in the air and barely stable ground keeping you from burning in agony is really unsettling as well as the horrifying music. This is music would be perfect for a scene where the sun in dying and becoming a red giant.
