Why are you using the term "income" when you have not deducted your expenses. Those amounts you referred to as "income" was your revenue.. You should use proper terminology, "take home pay" is your actual income because that was the amount that netted the revenues and expenses.

@v-201014 сағат бұрын
That’s not what it’s about. Assuming you’re in public. You’re obviously limited to senior or maybe manager with no CPA. So there’s that. It’s also very difficult to move without a CPA once you get into the 6-figure range unless you’re lucky enough to have a client who really likes you. CPA opens doors. That’s really what it comes down to.

I feel like the end of your video contradicts your entire video. CPA helps you get more credibility, a better job, foot in the door for jobs you can't even have without it but they need to give you reasons to get a CPA. How is it that job security and better salary are not good reasons to become a CPA?

There is a similar issue here in the UK. The best ambitious university graduates aim for the top tier firms, forced to work outrageous hours for very mediocre pay, and risk getting fired if they fail their ACA exams because they're too busy trying to hit their filing deadlines. So many talented people are fired from the profession and then the firms complain that their remaining staff leave at the first opportunity post-qualifying for industry roles / other careers. The whole thing seems to be a pyramid scheme built on the sweat and grind of talented graduates while partners can often barely type an email.

I graduated in 2012, didn’t have enough credits so I did a masters program while working and started studying in 2015. I passed BEC and AUD but life just took over….. now it’s 2024. I’ve been a manager and started my own side practice… looking to try again… I don’t need it necessarily, I’ve been able to make $130k without it… and I tend to stand out with my work compared to those who have CPAs but horrible people skills… my goal is to start a family and switch over to part time consulting and work at a high billing rate. Think the CPA would help me achieve that. And I’d probably want to become an accounting professor later later.

Hiring is the only way to have a business worth having. Otherwise, you just have a job. It's frankly shocking how many tax biz owners are STILL in production after decades of owning their own firm. The only way to growth and getting one's time back while making more money is to hire quality people.

A quick Google search shows that the 150 credit hour requirement became standard around the mid 80's or so exactly around the time period that the last of the boomers would've been graduating college. Now 75% of CPA's are still baby boomers in 2024. Old fuckers pulled up the ladder is what happened.

At least one of the big 4 firms has specified in their job postings that the EA is on equal grounds with the CPA and BAR exam (for Tax, at least). Two of the other ones are a little vague on it, and one has made it clear that only the CPA counts (strange world now).

Honestly, it comes down to decades of terrible treatment from Big 4-5 and other major public accounting firms that took their approach as the norm. All the discussions that EVERY student accountant heard as they were studying were true: 1. terrible hours 2. treated like children 3. ridiculously low pay considering the bachelor and designation requirements 4. having to still study while working (even after designation) 5. New emerging industries (like tech) AND old blue collar industries that began to pay just as much or significantly more for less effort and time I'm just surprised the industry didn't collapse sooner. However, the silver-lining is that for people who are still around, many of their salaries have gone up a decent amount because of all this shortage. TLDR you reap what you sow public firms.

CPA is the prestige credential. A CPA has proven competence through education, continuing professional education, experience, and testing. This is not true for EAs and non-credentialed persons. I have found that CPAs overall are much more ethical than non-CPAs. I have been a CPA since 1971.
@psychickumquat26 күн бұрын
Three things: low pay, poor work life balance, and too clumsy to get a CPA license. First and second are pretty obvious; no one wants to work 60+ hours a work on the regular for slightly more than a similar industry 9-5. Third one baffles me. Why we don't have a federal set of standards for CPA licensing requirements is insane. On top of that, the current procedure for getting a license is expensive and clunky. $1000 just to take some exams isn't money a lot of prospective exam takers have, let alone expensive review courses and material. Until the process is modernized, people will continue to avoid becoming CPAs altogether.
