maya-these are the words to look forwarded to. No your adventures on Magic Carpet II won't be the same but I look forward to seeing the new places you find in the up coming years. Please, continue to inspire the upcoming sailors to work towards their dreams as you have done so

I am so sad that I have caught all the way up, because now I have run out of videos to watch about the Magic Carpet II. I am just waiting to see the mast get installed, and a sea trial!

Nice job. But it seems that you prefer to make boat maintenance rather than sailing..lol

Can you please explain why you didn’t need to seal the top of the bolts (where they go into the bowsprit)?

Question: With all the lovingly varnished wood aboard, how do you clean it? Do you have a problem with mildew with no air conditioning? We have a custom 34ft sailboat in Florida with an entire teak interior. Suggestions for cleaning and fighting off mildew would be appreciated. We have been watching you for years and enjoy your travels as well as your workmanship.

Have been admiring your and Maya's dedication, craftsmanship and "sticktuitiveness" since you started the project. Truly a primer for someone who wants to "do it right". Unsure if you've thought about the noise generated by the wires inside the mast. It is annoying on a quiet night at anchor with a slight swell, but installing a solid foam bulkhead at the bottom of the mast then filling the mast with styrofoam shipping "peanuts" stops it. Keep up the great work!

I liked so much the expresion of your frend sailor! Below the top metal plates you have not used sika? Water can "flow" below the plate and the 10 layers of coating?
@christopherstube94733 күн бұрын
Very satisfying to see a couple of serious craftsman fitting the bowsprit. I loved the prisms. The bowsprit looks wide enough to do gymnastic exercises on. It was good thinking to put a kick under the raised floor for the toes in the head. As always, your aesthetics are first rate.

Dust comes from clothes - Aladino’s T-shirt and jeans?

We didn’t see how the bowsprit hardware is sealed? What keeps the moisture from seeping down the threads?

Nice work, but didn't you forget the butyl tape at the bolts? Now water will ingress.

This was only to hold down the bowsprit until the caulking cures. The ss plate will be installed soon

What an awesome video again, you two! The bowsprit really adds so much to the appearance of the boat, as well as being an indicator of how close you are to splashdown!

It was nice to see the use of "hand"press and not the "hand"mer. People on youtube are risking their hands hammering on steel!!!, so well done!

Question for Maya, is it true that you started the channel to first document the $ 1 boat and also to keep your parents in touch with what and where you were? Also, epic work Al and co.
@SailingMagicCarpet3 күн бұрын
Hi Claris, Almost, she started the channel to show what we were doing in Europe. (Episode 1). The 1$ boat story happened before we met, but she made the series later in the timeline.

Is it okay to apply sika below decks to the backing plate? Do you try to avoid the bolts? I thought you were only supposed to do the topside so that you can detect leaks in the future and not trap water in the fitting. Novice refitter here, thanks in advance!

Mistakenly buying filmjölk instead of mjölk. Classic. You're definitely not the first foreigner to make that mistake. 😀 Getting decaf (koffeinfritt) instead of real coffee is another, more serious, one.

The masterful refinishing and installation of the bowsprit by the renowned Ship Right, “but of course there’re ten coats” Aladino, aided by Ship Master, and cracker of wise, Barry went off without a hitch. It was a joy to watch! Aladino, thanks for the over- boring, then filling with epoxy trick, that extremely useful info will be forever in my quiver of knowledge! And what a mounting plate y’all were gifted! Polish that stainless up, and SHAZAM! More unique sparkly bits for Magic Carpet! Can you tell, that I’m just a wee bit excited for y’all?

Love this channel, Aladino is such a knowledgeable perfectionist a pleasure to watch at work . A question though, why no Sika under the top plate of the bow sprit? Will not the water run along the carriage bolt and remain trapped there for ever? Even with the holes in the sprit encapsulated ( I wish and hope and pray they are ) I do not get it. Can anybody enlighten me?
@SailingMagicCarpet3 күн бұрын
Good catch, it’s not the final install of that plate yet. Just the bowsprit for now

Why didn’t you passivate the heat affected zone on the stainless hawser pipe. Acid passivation will restore the surface oxide and therefore restore corrosion resistance.
