Quality and high performance from Islander Reels. I have had my Steelheader now for 30 years and it still gets heavy usage. I purchased one for my brother in 2010 , I tried it for a few trips but I can't break away from mine. Wader, rods and even may trusted Pioneer fishing jacket ( great designed jacket with lots of storage and construction ) have drifted out of rotation but that Steelheader remains.

I got a new kingpin the other day and noticed the handles have a very slight resistance (rubbing) spot, is that normal?

My LX 4.5 is louder when retrieving line than it is outgoing. Can this be changed or fixed?
@islanderreels19032 жыл бұрын
Hey sorry for the slow response. There's nothing that can mechanically change the sound production, but if you keep the teeth of your clutch greased it should dampen the sound somewhat.
@DragonGP2 жыл бұрын
@@islanderreels1903 Actually I love the sound. I just want it to be louder outgoing than incoming on the LX 4.8, my others don't have that issue. I own a massive amount of fly gear and reels from the best manufacturers in the world and a few years ago I bought an LL Bean Tidemaster and fell in love with it. I've since replaced about 50% of my reels with Islanders. They've now become my favorite reels.

@@DragonGP Hi, I just got word that there's another option to purchase a heavy duty clicker spring that will make it super loud if that's what you'd like. Shoot us an email or give us a call and we'll take care of you.

I've had my Islander Steelheader reel for almost 15 years now, never had an issue with it. Can't begin to count the number of fish I've caught with it. Salmon, Steelhead, Browns, Lakers and even Smallmouth Bass. If you buy one of these reels, take good care of it 'cause it's definitely going to take care of you. 👍👍😊😊

is olive oil ok?
@islanderreels19033 жыл бұрын
We do not recommend olive oil. Neats foot oil is a good option as is the superlube included with our maintenance kits

My cork popped off the clutch of my AR3. Should I oil the underneath side and just put it back in place?
@1983mikechanАй бұрын
@tonyhoyt No, you will have to glue that cork back on.

My Islander Steelheader was bought yesterday took it home for fathers day and the man absolutely loved it. Is it supposed to spin with a breezy sound however? The faster it spins the more pronounced the sound. Its not a grind or anything but a breezy purr. Should I take it back and try a new one. I know they are not going to be silent but was just wondering. Thank you! Beautiful product!

A bearing change will make it quiet again. Will get louder with use tho. You can send it in to Islander or if you or your dad feel comfortable changing them yourself. Can always call Islander for instructions

What kind and test of backing and main line are you using?
@islanderreels19034 жыл бұрын
It's different strokes for different folks, but generally when fishing for salmon it's 20-40 lb mono and 80lb dacron if there's backing. A lot of folks just run straight mono. Many will run backing then braid then a short shot of mono or fluoro, especially if running deep (less line resistance).

Great work Steve, Rob and Craig, We can learn a lot from the amazing work that the fishermen and volunteers have done back in Lake Ontario with the support of the government there to keep the fishery in amazing shape. Love to see Islander, Gibbs and Scotty making a mark in that region. I spent my young life fishing out of Port Hope and points East on the lake and many people in Canada and the US have no Idea just how incredible a fishery it is.
