The anti- biotic argument was a bit of a stretch Jonathon- an awful metaphor- shameful. One must however remember that the Doctors and Surgeons DID do this and refuse help to those with heart conditions who smoked - refused treatments to them and no matter their age but especially over 50. They also gave no help to them to give up the addiction. The British government did that to “their own” people!! There are many types of “prejudice “ and to all who do not have healthy bank accounts. Racism is an American word - prejudice is a British word and fits all discrimination.

Yes most maligned. I do think the arrivals he was talking about who came because they were Commonwealth citizens did assimilate. They are proud to be British and for King/Queen and country - the 1st and 2nd generation proves that I believe. They came willingly, wanting to come. The issue people in comments are making are those that have come and continue to come from being War torn countries- not coming because they wanted but because they were forced to. You have to ask of those coming from 9/11 onwards the question : If we were not in their country’s killing indiscriminately for lies told to the British people to get support for many unjust wars - would they be in our country now ?? You know the answer already. They want their home country to be free of war from the West.

As a young child, I religiously watched; &, adored his show; his characters; his sense of humor: &, many of his small performances; &, as stand-out comic; too; as well as, in film; and, on tv; over the years, were cherished by me. I meant him in person, a number of times; many years ago; and, he was by nature, as I found him to be: the nicest guy, sort of guy; and, a brilliant one, too. He could do: extreme sadness; extreme happiness; &, many things inbetween; and, could be also be extremely funny!

I love Kirk Douglas's amusement at Peter Cook's argument at 8:22. I've just finished his autobio (The Ragman's Son)...currently reading One Leg Too Few about Pete and Dud...and Kirk was every bit as eager to accompany ladies to the bedroom as Dudley was. Quite unashamedly so, according to his book!!

He died 11 months after this. If you watch the full interview he talks a lot about being tired, exhausted, working too hard, 3 years of touring, people don't understand what it's like, etc, and he looks exhausted. It makes you wonder if he wanted out and his death was that, albeit accidental (we assume). I watched a documentary about Donna Summer where she explained her exhaustion from touring. It got to the point where for no other reason than sheer exhaustion, she was sitting in a hotel room one day and was going to jump off the balcony to her death. The only reason she didn't, is because the housemaid knocked on the door to clean the room. They really over worked famous musicians back then, as some still do now (Amy Winehouse for instance - she shouldn't have been touring re her addictions being so advanced, but they forced her as they wanted to make as much money out of her as they could. I'm guessing they realised she might overdose one day and then the touring money dries up for various parties (promoters, tour managers, etc).
