I grew Redhaven peaches for a couple of years in large imitation wine barrels. They might be 40 gal size. They were the best peaches I've ever had and did not get any die back from the winters. As soon as I put them in the ground they got canker and leaf curl and when they got to big to cover all the critters would go after them too. I planted some apricots and already have canker problems. Growing any stone fruit has its challenges here in MA USA. People don't realize how much work it takes to get produce to the market and then here in the states they must be aesthetically pleasing to the eye without blemishes so that people will buy them. So they produce varieties that can take shipping without damage and usually have no flavor. Now I want to put a peach in my greenhouse in a container again. I have figs too and this year seems to be a good year for figs in my location. Looking forward to them ripening. That peach tree is really producing and you thinned them too.

Great harvest of peaches, Conor! That's a very productive little tree you have there! None of my peach trees held onto any fruit this year although my nectarine tree has 2 nectarines on it. You must be so proud of your allotment I think parsnips are best harvested after a frost, the frost brings out more sweetness. If you're picking yours soon you can peel, chop and freeze them to replicate the frost sweetening, cook them from frozen. Noticed a few tomato plants growing out of my mums compost bin today, I think they be supermarket tomatoes that have seeded, we've potted them and see how they'll turn out. I'm sure you can grow the seeds from supermarket tomatoes and you get a better quality of tomato than you bought.

Hey, your best bet with cuttings is on the UK Fig growers Facebook group. In the Winter, lots of people on that group sell cuttings. My trees are a bit young to take cuttings this year (as most are only in their first year), so I probably won't have much to sell.

@agweder Ah that's weird. You could send a message to Wesley Burton (admin) to try to join. He's a great guy so I don't see why he would block. I get most of my cuttings from people on the group. I don't have their contacts, as I message through the group to them. The only other source is vinnyfigs.co.uk who has an annual cuttings sale (usually around January). Hope that helps! Yes that pot sounds good, generally the bigger the better, as long as it's manageable. JI number 3 is the best choice. Feed is completely up to you, a slow release organic one is a great option. Though the JI 3 will already have enough nutrients for a good few months.

Your fig trees are looking good, Conor. Hopefully, the weather will improve again soon. It's feeling more like autumn here at the moment with the cold, wind and rain... lol. I started to see some bumps on my Longue d'Aout the other week so I decided to pinch the growth at the top and moved it into the greenhouse. I'm pretty sure they would have no chance of ripening outside for me here, but maybe there is a better chance in the greenhouse 🤞. Beautiful dog! I've also been struggling a bit this year with my growing, firstly a lot of things didn't germinate, then a second batch rotted, third batch has grown well but theyre v small as its late on the season and I had an army of snails decimating my yard where my greenhouse is so have had to go on twice daily slug and snail patrol. Then on the plot itself most direct sown plants either didn't germinate or got destroyed by slugs. I've ordered beer traps and I'm hoping for more drier warm days which help the plants grow stronger and reduce slug activity!
