I'm not a hundred percent sure if they receive cargo flights, as the runways can only handle up to a Boeing 757.

It always gets me why does the Cardinal only get one engine while just about all the other long haul trains have two. I love the Cardinal - especially in a cozy roomette!

Yeah, I don't really get why Cardinal only has one engine, maybe because it's a lot shorter than other long-distance trains?

@@ferryguy2 I have compared some videos of the Cardinal to the Crescent, Piedmont and other similar routes. Those other trains do tend to be longer. Cardinal averages two coach, one sleeper and one sleeper / baggage car. In comparison, the Crescent has 3 to 5 Coach cars, 3 to 5 sleepers and a baggage car. So, the one engine does make sense after all.

Wow! Thanks for sharing with us. Metra and Joliet have a rich history. Not always good but they have recovered. It's sad that the Rock Island RR collapsed.

Yeah, I agree, and it is sad how the Rock Island fell. They were so bankrupt that I heard they weren't even able to give their inter-city routes to Amtrak in 1971.
