I had an uncle who settled down in palm springs after fighting the Germans in WW1. My grandmother told me of how as a little girl in the 1930s depression they got on the train from Ogden and traveled down to see the movie stars. They got to Palm Springs to visit the relatives who settled there, sun glasses, and furs, and all the bling blang, but when arrived and they opened the cupboard for supper there was nothing to eat in the house at all. All they could find was a can of Campbells soup. This was the depression in S. California hanging out with Shirly Temple and Clark Gable but no food.

I grew up in curwensville. I got the chance to learn from mr. rowles in high school when he took our class on a history tour of the town. Growing up anything hardware related was bought at gates hardware. And I still make the trip from philipsburg to curwensville to go to gates for what I need when I’m not in a time pinch. I walk in to the store and Jeff instantly knows me by my family. Both are great individuals.
