The critics dished the song for being shallow and sugary, when it was first released. But they missed the fact that IU's art is not about an individual song, it is the overall artistic production and experience on multiple media: the role the song played in the context of a concert and stage performance, a particular facet of herself that she wants to show (this one is very different from her usual image), the story it tells and message she wants to articulate in a particular juncture of her life (her life itself is an art to be appreciated!)
