I totally agree with you. More people should watch it to realize what really matters in life. Great video!

I really enjoyed this video! I also really like your style of delivery here and you really suit it. I totally get where you're coming from, and it's something I see a lot too; especially with younger generations (and I'm only 34), I hear people talk about their struggles with attention and a genuine love/hate relationship with their black glass rectangle. I think there can be a lot to unpack here - but I would always start with kindness to yourself, because struggles with attention can also create a lot of self-shaming (e.g. "I'm too lazy to read a book!" or "I've wasted hours of my life watching instagram!") and small acts of self-shaming can be done over and over very rapidly without us realising it, which just makes the whole thing feel more stressful to think about. I think everything is a muscle, and you build that muscle up. That's true with attention as well - aiming for a page a day of a book is absolutely fine at first, and then two, and suddenly you're reading a whole chapter in one sitting. Same with creativity, or making something. I'd always encourage people not to sit down and expect their behaviour to suddenly snap into a different mode - it usually won't, but everything is a muscle which can be built up. I also think you can 'weaponise' the tools of KZfaq and Instagram so they become more productive. For example, I have accounts I log into where every channel I follow is related to particular crafts I enjoy doing, so they're actively teaching me new methods or giving me ideas. Or channels related to specific interest or professional interest areas (I run workshops on AI so I give myself permission to watch AI reviewers and things as I'm relaxing in bed - because it genuinely entertains me but it also keeps me informed about developments). In this way, although it's still pure entertainment, I've at least flavoured it to become helpful. I hope you keep making videos, I've just subscribed to your channel :) And I hope you aren't too hard on yourself when you aren't productive. Any movement is improvement!

Thank you very much for your very thoughtful comment! I made this video "spontaneously" and also realise there is so much to unpack. I really appreciate what you say with being kind to yourself. This is probably even the most important point. There's definitely a need to be judgmental to oneself when it comes to this. It may already be useful to observe or recognise when you have a moment that you feel you "wasted" on social media. Just that - without judging yourself. And that can help create a more helpful pattern (I mean, that's a guess of mine). Just today I was thinking that often it is also about us always wanting or feeling the need to do something, which includes not wanting to miss out on social media. I do miss moments of not doing anything. Thanks again! I will continue with videos - will record what comes up in my mind and continue improving. And by doing that I will also learn to be ok if I'm not productive at all at times. have a great Sunday!

A few years ago I've stopped using social media entirely. Except for youtube and very rarely pinterest, I don't really scroll through my phone, and let me tell you it has done wonders for my ability to focus. I read everyday without issues, I study, I draw and I'm far mentally healthier than I was when I kept getting lost in social media. Highly recommend it to everyone. Another thing that has allowed me to read more is TheStoryGraph, they have daily streaks for reading and it's done wonders to keep me excited to read more and read widely.

45yrs and I remember no social media or the internet or mobile phones. I miss those days. I used to read novels, take a book everywhere and read when spare moments. Even at home between home jobs. Now, internet takes my time up. I dislike the self help vlogs or book's now, becoming a fad. My aim to pick up DIY books, learn to mend things at home and to feel good about this. In the end, you take it all with you, no one will care, someone will take our place. Small forward steps brother.

oh yes - I remember those days when we had phones with a rotary dial. Phone numbers were 4 to 5 digits. You called your friend, agreed to meet on Saturday at 2pm and that's it. Internet is a love-hate relationships for me. I really enjoy that I can connect with people from anywhere, like now with your comment. But I long for simpler things at times. Same thing goes for self-help books and tips and what-not. It's always about wanting to improve something that doesn't necessarily need improvement. Less is more. Thank you for your comment! Have a great day!

I stopped the video before you revealed the number of pages you read, and because of the title of the video I’d go with 0… 😅

That’s more! 😅 Love the message of your video, this is why I reduced drastically the time I spend on LinkedIn, it’s crazy the amount of time it takes and how draining it is!
@itstomiB2 ай бұрын
Haha thank you! Yes it's crazy. Also the train why I recorded this today because I was annoyed with myself 😅 I need to do better. and yes, LinkedIn is the same actually. I also spend way less time there, it wasn't really healthy anymore.

Both sound and image are getting better! It's funny to see how we both evolve with our videos! BTW, did you start the 1st of the month or a bit later? (you must be close to the end of the challenge!!)

Thank you! I find it funny to edit my own voice, I am never sure if it really sounds like this or not. Thursday, I think, is the last day of the challenge for me 🙏🏼

100%!! It's showing up everyday even if nothing goes right 😅 I still think it's amazing to learn skills, some days we might not have time for improving a specific aspect of the video, but during these days we still record, edit and upload the video, so skills are solicited every single day! Btw, I like your new setup, the bookcases look nice!

Hahaha so true. Even when things go wrong or like today, when my brain is melted cause I just want to sleep. I think we probably have a good mindset already, still pushing ourselves every day was a great exercise!! And thank you for the comment - also happy with the bookshelf. Still need to work on the colors though 😅
