I hated every single page of this book. And no, my feelings have nothing to do with the personal life of the author. Even though when I found out later, having already read the book, that he had mental problems, it did answer as to way the writting style was incoherent at times, and felt so choppy. Let's start backward - the ending was good. That's about the only good thing. It was not brilliant, it was good. As for anything else, oh, where do I begin ... the characters - one dimentional. The Nicky character is a straight annoying copy of characterless Mary Sue that Rey Palpatine was. She is bland, much like anybody else in this book. All these characters feel like cartboard stereotypes rather than actual people. Finn just doesn't have it in him to either build or maintain a fully fledged character. The action - well, there isn't much of it to begin with. By the time the body of the second wife is discovered, nothing actually happens. Just very badly described emotions and thoughts. The writting style - choppy, incoherent. He spends so much time describing the rooms and objects and yet, there is so much as investment in character building. This story would have been so much better had it been written as a short novel, because the author is not good at writting action, nor is he good at creating and maintaining characters. I also am of the belief that never in his life has he met an actual Englishman ...

I really enjoyed reading your take on this one! 💕📖

Not my usual fare but I might give Butcher & Blackbird a go, sounds fun. I’ve just finished reading one of your earlier recommendations, I have some questions for you by Rebecca Makkai. Superb, my first 5 star read of the year. Took me seventy pages to get in to it but then I was hooked. Gripped me until the end. I’ll certainly check out more of the authors work👍

Yes! Butcher & Blackbird is wonderful, especially if you’re looking for something a little bit different! 🤭💕📚 Oh wow, I’m thrilled to bits to hear that you loved that Makkai book so much! I’ve been thinking about doing a video featuring some of her other works, maybe I’ll do that sooner rather than later! 📚💕 I would highly recommend reading The Great Believers by her next! It’s fantastic and was also the book that hooked me on her writing! Thanks so much for watching! 🥰📖

Don't know if you have read any of his books, but "Robert Asprin" is one of my favourite authors of all time. His "Phule" books are funny, interesting, different, and all are "page turners" to the extreme. I came across him due to his series of books that all have "Myth" in the title (Hit or Myth is the first). Skeeve is a human wizard who gets employed to solve problems with his demon friend (Az) and their pet dragon. Again, very funny with unique story lines, and when I came across the first one in a book shop, I started to read it right there in the shop to see if the style was something I would like, and I got totally lost in the story so much, 2 hours later the owner asked me if there was any chance he could close as it was time - so I picked up 2 more of his as well and I bought them. I couldn't stop reading it and finished it at 03.30a.m. that night ! If that's not a recommendation I don't know what else to say. The next week I got the shop to order as many of his books they could get (early 80's so no easily accessible Internet) and would spend peaceful weekends relaxing while reading them, detailed images forming in my mind with the words. I hope you don't mind the recommendation in return for you suggesting these 7 books to us 😊.

Hello! Of course, I don’t mind your recommendation! In fact, I welcome it wholeheartedly! 🥰 One of my favorite things about making these videos is getting the chance to be able to talk to other people about books, and get more recommendations! I actually have not heard of Robert Asprin, but after your glowing recommendation I plan to check out his work soon! That Myth series sounds absolutely FANTASTIC! 😀🐉 Thanks again so much for watching, and also for the wonderful recommendation! ❤️📖

I actually bought Hild from a bookshop in Whitby some years ago but I’ve never read it!😖 I’ve pushed it up my TBR. I also hadn’t realised a follow up had been released so that might be where my Christmas book vouchers are going. I’ve put The Invisible Hour on my ‘wants list’ and just put, I have some Questions for you, on hold at my own local Library. I can never decide on ‘top lists’ but I think the two Monk&Robot books by Becky Chambers are my favourite reads of the year. Closely followed by Ray Nayler’s The Mountain in the Sea. Looking forward to your recommendations throughout 2024👍

Wow, thank you so much for watching and I can’t wait to read so many awesome books in 2024 and share them with everyone! 🥰📖 That’s too funny, because learning about the sequel to Hild is also what finally pushed me into reading it! 😂 And I’m soooo glad that I did! I hope you will be too! Ah, I also absolutely LOVE the Monk & Robot books by Becky Chambers! They’re just so pure and sweet! ❤️ I have not read Naylor’s book but after hearing your recommendation for it I will be checking it out soon!

Great video! I now need to read Flamer. I have read and enjoyed the other two books you mentioned. Georgia was avoiding book bans for a while. I had hope, but some people in freakin' Cobb County, of course, challenged a couple of books and won. Flamer and Me and Earl and the Girl were the two that have been banned, so far.
