After the queen captures the d pawn, Nf3 doesn't work because Qe4+ wins the bishop with a fork. The better move is Qf3 instead of Nf3 because Qe4+ would hang a queen.

Decided to upload this one without any edits. Let me know what you think. I did not add a board to this one as it obscured the background of the cafe with loads of games going on. Let me know if you prefer this or if you would like a display board instead. I am open to suggestions on the format as it is very new.

Ugh. Lots of annoying, beginner-esque commentary mistakes - calling out wrong pieces, wrong squares, and the wrong color on the move. Why is that so difficult to get right?! Great games, though!
@petersiegfriedkrug28 күн бұрын
Too easy. I saw 1.Rd1! Always if it smells Zugzwang, you can try a waiting move. This is a chess problem for beginners!
@petersiegfriedkrug28 күн бұрын
I solved it in 6 seconds!! Not longer. The key move is 1.Bb1 and then the rook goes step by step... Note: In a chess problem with view pieces on the board - very often you solve the problem by thinking on Zugzang. Actually only b3-b2 is possible. Therefore you have to find against this ...
@petersiegfriedkrug28 күн бұрын
This is one of the exceptions where it wins. The reason for this is that the black king is on the edge and the black pawn prevents the black rook from getting better squares faster. This position is posted on the Internet on KZfaq by other people again and again!
@petersiegfriedkrug28 күн бұрын
Much, much too easy Andrew! This are forced move. The rook must act quickly! The mate is easy, because the white King already is near the edge. I would say, for beginner this puzzle is okay.
@petersiegfriedkrug28 күн бұрын
Really beautiful. I saw 1.Qd4, but there is ...Bxd3+ because the w. bishop on a5 is undefended. Therefore 1.Qf2! It is very rare that I do not solve mate in 2 in about 1 minute or 2 minutes. He was so fantastic!

The black pawn on h5 is not necessary. Without this pawn on h5 it is also won (1.Kh5). By the way. the pawn pair e6/e7 can also be on the d file, or c file, or b- file, but not on the a - file for sure.

2:26 What if, instead of Qd3, white plays Bxc6 with the intention of trying to capture the pawn on e5 next?
@mikecantreedАй бұрын
10:33 that problem pointed out an issue in your calculation. You assumed the queen had to move after the rook sac and Rg1. The queen can stay guarding bc white is already down a rook and needs to give up another to win the queen.

I don't really like these castling puzzles, unless it's obvious that castling is still an option. I did figure this out on the second attempt. The first move I figured out pretty easily, but the castling took one mistake. A surprisingly quick solve for my rating still, my puzzle rating is only 2000.

Am I mistaken that I thought castling across a checked square is illegal, even if the king doesn't cross it?
@ThePawnslayerChessVideos2 ай бұрын
Yes. As the rook is going through the checking square and the not the king, the king can legally castle.

Problem 26 you start off down a piece and you are sacrificing an exchange on top of that. I think the key to that one is the evaluation of the resulting position after you win back the piece. You are down the exchange, but you didn’t mention why you were trading down into a material down situation.
