Just in case you'd like to know, I recommend your excellent channel a lot to my friends, & training partners here in London, England! I think your channel is excellent! So, these passes you show here, I have used for many years, but I have to ask you one question, please? I used to use the pull-up-collar-grip when passing De La Riva too. However, I found that even if i use my elbow & knee connection to defend the DLR hook & Lasso, I did find that I was much more vulnerable to Triangles & Omoplatas when I used this grip. Now, of course, one could say to me: "You aren't keeping your knee/elbow connection tight enough/using it to drive out lasso!" That's easy to say, but as soon as your opponent kicks out your far knee, it instantly breaks apart your elbow/knee connection, as you need it to re-balance. So, instead now; I use a hand on my opponent's DLR leg, & push their hook outwards & Downwards to the floor to kill it. My question is: In your experience, would you give up using this collar grip if you cannot keep the knee/elbow connection together? Thank you very much in advance!

We are currently working with the de la riva and escaping. We use the straight leg, and sit on their shin, then step towards the hooked leg, and "slice" across going down to one knee, then start progressing. But these are nice, I will try it! Good video! New sub! Im trying to learn from all I can. We recently had one of head masters, Marcus come and he was amazing to roll with. His belt was just like yours. Ill get there one day!🍻

I like that this escape works from the worst side to be stuck on. One can't always manage to put the figure four on the bottom side.

If he makes it to sit up position, would we still do the technique the same? I got hit with this last week and still tried to knee slide. Didn’t go so well… 😂

definitely works better in the near distance (half guard type situation) there better options from sit up guard when our opponent has many variations of sweeps. I will be posting about it soon. Thank u

Welcome back! I spent a few years with Liera Jr. in Denver learning this style of outside passing and it's been SUPER effective for me. Seems like a lot of the no-gi passing at the higher levels is now aiming for north south as the destination for landing the pass. Curious what you think about the way the B-Team guys and others are teaching this style, professor. You can see what I'm referring to here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mK6BqpN2uamrnqM.html

Liera is a great professor! I'm sure you learned a lot from him. I think guard passing has some concepts that cannot be ignored for example body and head positioning. Definitely when you are able to pass the shoulder line and apply the right pressure on north south position increases tremendously the chance of getting a good pin. I believe that this applies to other types of pass if these concepts are applied. Thank you

One of my favorites, and great tip to keep the knee blocked by maintaining the inside position with the arm & elbow. That's where I used to lose the position. Thanks for the technique!

Doubtful this will work because the half guard lock is not tight. Not so easy to free the toes if tight by simply pushing.
