I understand how you feel about instagram, I gave up on it too, it is like a circus monkey thing, but I think that it would be nice to have static posts from you show up on my feed with like a longish caption, maybe some of the stuff you have in your newsletter. I've seen people who are not big on instagram have success doing it that way. =)

Always good to catch up with you, Alecia. These chats remind me of your podcast, which remains my all time favorite “Fall Revamp” content and I listen and relisten, again and again. You have such a way of making things feel cozy. I haven’t posted on IG for almost 5 years, but this week, finally deleted. I don’t know what had me hanging on for so long? This week, I heard someone point out that, things that keep you coming back over and over but never satisfy or satiate you, aren’t good (Godly). Bam, social media. I am trying to be more dedicated to filling my life with things that satisfy. Food, books, worship, deep thinking. It’s amazing how unfocused I feel sometimes. I am very ready to be back to school. I am craving a routine and structure. This year has been a tough one so far and the promise of new beginnings that school brings is a shiny bright spot. Plus, it’s our first year of High School for my oldest. Ack! Going to be downloading your High School Planner, for sure! “I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils, if I knew your name and address.” -Joe Fox, You've Got Mail

I have read more fiction books this summer than I have in years and years! I'm always reading nonfiction trying to better myself and get great homeschoold ideas. It has been so fun and rejuvenating reading fiction just for fun!!

I got off IG seven and half years ago after I was podcasting. I just was so convicted that I would cause another mom to stumble and not love the life she is given, and not someone else's life. I do a little you tube watching. God will honor and bless your decisions as the Lord leads.

Oh Alicia, Praying for your mama heart. Nothing can prepare you as a homeschool mom to the college drop off. It ripped out my heart, and I sobbed the whole way home, and once we got home I sobbed more because it felt like something was missing in our home. It's an exciting season for them but hard on your mama heart. Give yourself grace to ease back into new rhythms with your other kiddos. Give yourself grace to feel all the emotions. I pray for your sweet mama heart, and for your son's journey on becoming the man of God he has for him to be.

We are trying to go through our summer as slow as possible. Our oldest at home will be graduating high school in 2025. She’s our 2nd, but first homeschool graduate. The feelings are all over the place. So glad to hear from you. I understand your enjoyment from your social fast, but I will say you’re such a breath of fresh air on here. I always leave your chats/ videos from IG and YT encouraged and not stressed at all. Enjoy the rest of your summer 🥰

Thank you so much for this!! While we're between years 2 and 3 of high school, this still helps. I appreciate your time, Alicia. I do have a quick question - what did you use for apologetics? I've looked at stuff out there, but trusting I know how strongly you feel about it (I do too), I'd love to know how you approached this. Thanks again!

Can you skip years of easy grammar. Like easy grade grade 2 then just to 4 then 6 etc?
@AliciaHutchinson16 күн бұрын
Absolutely! I do not do a new grammar book every year.

Thank you for mentioning how one can push too hard. I am a new homeschool Mom and before the next school year my thoughts have been back and forth with how we will approach math next year.

Love these suggestions! I grew up in church but never really dug into my bible until I became an adult. I got a study version that made sense to me and have almost read through it. But I still feel like such a newbie and that I dont know where to look or have the right answers when my kids have questions. Any suggestions on that? So I think I feel intimidated just reading through the bible with them, I try to find a resource or a curriculum. Does that make sense? Lol
@AliciaHutchinsonАй бұрын
I don't have any curriculum suggestions but I do recommend getting a good catechism to have on hand and start memorizing the questions with your kids. The Ology by Marty Machowski is a great book too.
@TheJhchildressАй бұрын
@@AliciaHutchinson great thanks! I've been wanting to get The Ology! I'll try those.

Alicia, Thank you for being so honest and truthful with these mama's. Such fear surrounding high school when colleges just want your money. Lol Neither of our older two had any problem getting into college and or trade.
@amberleggio335Ай бұрын
And, yes parents need to be extremely careful with dual enrollment because college is very liberal. Even Christian colleges. Once a professor gets tenure they can't be fired even if they change their views on Christianity. Know your kids and their personalities.
@amberleggio335Ай бұрын
Amen on the dual enrollment. We have graduated two thus far. We didn't do dual enrollment. Worked on passions, apologetics and logic, and Bible to prepare them to go out into this world. We had one become a fireman and one get a huge academic scholarship to a private college. Both different routes. But, the dual enrollment was not an issue.

Great tips! Definitely aiming for a more relaxed, less planned summer as well ☺️ We are also really big Jonathan Auxier fans…we’ve read all his books but Sophie Quire. My kids are 10 (boy) & 8 (girl) and we really enjoyed The Night Gardner (read it this year)…although it is on the darker side it’s a really great story. But our favorite is Sweep! SO good!! I’ve listen to a few of his interviews and my kids have taken a few workshops with him, he is definitely a Christian and one that I feel is trustworthy (I totally get what you guys mean when you say that no longer means much, so sad!). You both are wonderful, thank you for your constant encouragement, I always look forward to your podcasts/videos 🥰

We have read all the Jonathan Auxier books and do enjoy them. Although, The Night Gardner is darker and I wouldn't read it for younger kids,but Jr High and up depending on your child should be good. I have six kiddos and the range 22, 20, 18, 17, 14 and 9. My young adult ones have read The Night Gardner but not my younger ones. Thank y'all for sharing.

Yay for KZfaq, I enjoy your videos. I'm not on Instagram anymore. I have four kids similar ages, mine are 24, 21, 15 and 13. My oldest is getting married in September. My son moved out in February. Different dynamic when a child moves out but all good things. My mom has worsening Alzheimer's so that has made this season hard. But God is good and He will get us through. Thanks for all the tips and help! Yes I feel ya with the workout struggle as well. I want to get mine done in the morning mentally but physically to get my body lifting weights in the morning is another story haha 😅 I'm gonna try it though to help with my schedule. I love grocery pickup and finally did the Walmart delivery service to help and with ordering groceries for my mom.
