hi, I think I have the exact same problem on my d4 210! injector n.4 not working when it warms up. I sent the injector to a Bosch center but they told me it was fine. in the end I solved the problem by reversing the wiring of the two d4 210s on the boat! magically both engines work with reversed wiring. reversing the wiring again the problem arose on the fourth injector. But this year the same problem occurred again with the same injector! I'm very confused. How did you solve the problem? Thank you Atvthe momentI am on a boatvtrip and I am a bit in trouble

I think I have a 1977 Merc 70hp thunderbolt two stroke obviously fires right up and idles great but once you put it in gear it stalls and it seems like it’s got a misfire up until full throttle. Any advice?

I did all new fuel lines, but I did not do spark plug wires. I did do new plugs and rebuild both carbs. I still haven’t checked if they’re 100% synced yet, but it ran like this before I rebuilt the carbs.

It will also cut out at mid rpm. But it will get past it and take off.

Hi Ted, great videos, I have a KAD44 that doesn’t wake up at all. I have battery voltage on pin 30 in the key switch when I turn on the main battery switch. However, when I turn the key switch to wake up the EDC, the voltage drops to 0. I have checked all voltages in the relay box as well as the terminals on the side of the engine and the 7,5A fuse, all looks good, no corrosion, nobody’s been messing with it. Also checked the 8 pin connectors going to the helm, all good. I have the wiring diagrams, but not sure exactly how to trace the power to pin 30 in the key switch. If I take a separate lead with battery voltage to pin 30 in the key switch, all works well. Is there any typical splice or something else that you encountered regarding power to pin 30 in the key switch?

I have been chasing an intermittent problem on the port side of a boat with twin 2002 Volvo TAMD73P-EDC engines for the last few seasons. Now, consistently the port side will turn over once and cut out. If I leave the ignition switch on I can jump the starter and run the engine fine. I have verified continuity of the harness from the Junction Box to the helm, swapped harnesses at the helm, and now looking at the EDC & harness in the engine room. I only have seen cannon plug style connectors throughout and not the 8pin ones as you've shown. That has me thinking there is an extension plug in-between the fly bridge helm and engine room... This video may have just helped me get to the bottom of the problem. Thank you for posting and sharing your knowledge sir.

@ecmo2007 glad it helps! I find that those 7 liters need a good "starting battery" with a CCA rating over 1000 amps. I've seen just that kind of issue due to low battery capacity

Hello Ted, I have had a 2004 KAMD300 since new, done only 500 hours. Had a dirty fuel issue, now seemingly resolved and tank thoroughly cleaned with filters replaced and all fuel lines cleaned. However, the engine was also smoking/steaming and overheating so we serviced the water pump, thoroughly cleaned heat exchanger, same with aftercooler, new oil cooler (oh, it burst!), serviced all injectors, same with fuel pump, new air filter, new impeller, checked exhaust elbow, checked water strainer, and spent many £thousands but still smoking/steaming and overheating at higher revs!? Any thoughts? Could the thermostats be faulty? Doesn’t seem to put out much exhaust water but difficult to monitor at speed! It also revs irregularly after around 1600 revs which I’m thinking could be a compressor issue maybe - clutch not engaging properly? Compressor oil not changed since new. Help!?

Hi Ted, do you know if it's possible to fit the stop start control while retaining the key switches on a evc-c single helm with 2 x volvo penta d4 260s , I purchased the stop start panel without researching it fully thinking it would be a nice addition, but on initial inspection it seems it's one or the other without having a second helm station . I have asked on a few groups but had no answer .

@ToledoFlatheads swap the two power packs from port side to the starboard side. Recheck spark. If it jumps to the other cylinder power pack is bad.

Hi Ted, Thanks for de video. I think this is the problem with my KAD 44. When the engine is at the right temperature and after 10 minutes of sailing the engine switches off and the 2 fuses blow.

I love your VP videos Ted! I am troubleshooting a D12D-A because the ECU and PFM Will not communicate with my tech's VODIA. The engine does start and run, But the gauges are wonky. This happened after an electrical meltdown. (Port engine lost ground and was using all of the bonding wires which melted also). All of the wirelooms were replaced, But we are now left with this remaining problem. Is there a chance I could consult with you for some advice?

Very helpful. I need to know more about my 8.1 lol. Should have realized two years ago when i bought my bought for 70 k these engines are obsolete. Hard to get parts for.ie knock sensors. I just bought an 8.1 gm knock sensor and a Diacom scanner. So wish me luck. I have multiple issues. Check engine lights and in limp mode. Low oil pressure 6psi at idle. So we will see how deep this goes. Shake my head at this.I hope you have more videos on the Volvo penta

Great videos! I m learning so much from the content. I do havew a few questions though. What are the part numbers of the components that make up the demonstration board? Also, I need to replace the HCU for my motors. They were originally in a twiin motor installation and I am moving these to a single motor boat. Do you know of a dealer who will reprogram an HCU? I am having no luck finding one in the new england area. Lastly, can an HCU be programmed remotely, if the serial numbers of the motor etc are known? Thank you Bob

Thanks Ted. Ya my bellows for the drive shaft has a crack in it. Make a horrible sound when I start the motor. 2 years ago, I replaced the gimbal bearing, the exhaust, driveshaft bellows, and the short shift cable. Well gotta pull it all apart AGAIN (PAIN IN THE REAR) I'll replace the gimbal bearing, replace the shifter O ring (not sure if I did that the last time 😢) new driveshaft bellows, new u-joints for the driveshaft, and all new gaskets. This is not a EZ job = A PAIN IN THE BUTT. Mine is a 1990 omc 3.0l cobra outdrive. Thanks for the video, thumbs up.

Ted, great video, so informative. Question. I'm a single engine installation using evc-e controllers, i have two helms, an inside helm with gauges and the key, and controls and an outside helm with steering and controls. How does one hook up a second shifter? Do you need controls with an hcu built in, or can this be done with simple controls. My preference is simple controls.

Hi, I hope it's okay to ask you this question because I can't seem to find any information about faulty governors online. We installed a completely overhauled volvo penta md11c in our sailboat, and although it's running it won't react well to the throttle. When increasing throttle, it will take a while for it to get up to speed. Sometimes, when under load, the RPM's won't increase at all until we press the cold start button, then it will respond to the throttle pretty well. After returning to idle, and increasing throttle, it will not increase RPM's, or will get up to speed very slowly. The mechanic who did the overhaul says that it's because the engine needs some time to run before the governor will function properly. Something about the weights getting stuck and needing some time to settle. Could that be true? We've ran the engine for 3 hours now, changing speeds every minute or so, but not much has changed. I hope you can give some advice or peace of mind or advice!
