Great video! Not trying to nit pick but I think adding The Get Up Kids and The Promise Ring would've clarified how emo got more pop punk sounding. A lot of 2000s emo bands fw The Get Up Kids

Mid to late 90s/2nd wave emo is my favorite, something about the clean guitars juxtaposed with the vocals and the other instrumentation always spoke to me. And it’s crazy that that particular style fuels the current wave. Mineral, Joan of Arc, The Promise Ring, American Football, Jimmy Eat World, and Penfold are some of my favorites. While I dont hold a negative view towards the later waves as it also has many bands that I’ve come to enjoy very much, as someone said before I also think the scene years left a sour taste in my mouth.

Oh my god were you even born in 1985? Rites Of Spring, fine, the whole "the singer would cry on stage" mythology may as well be real since it's been read into so many historical tracts and no one knows if the dude just got a speck of plywood dust in his eye from the stage one night. Forget Rites Of Spring cuz the very first band I saw being called "emo-core" as they happened was DC's Dag Nasty in 1985. In 1985-1989 if you described a band as emo-core it meant they were doing what Dag Nasty did. Period. Of course they are nowhere in your historical feature. Can I Say by Dag Nasty in 1985 was the first record to be labelled "emo-core" by the tastemaking fanzines of the day. No doubt every single Dag Nasty member is horrified to be connected to one of the lamest youth cultures of the last 20 years. Emo-core had nothing to do with kids in dumb haircuts wearing skinny jeans and Hot Topic accessories. Dag Nasty used to wear f'n sweatpants on stage! They were great for it!

not to brag, but before me this song was a hidden gem on soundcloud with 10-20ish views. So I'm glad I'm doing some good in the world in helping bands like these get the recognition they deserve. Also kudos for whoever posted that, thats some real-ass stuff.

It sounds like at some point in the 2010s emo had a twee phase. Bands like Modern Baseball and Mom Jeans could share a bill with Diet Cig or something, and not only would it not be weird, it feels like the same audience.
