Don’t worry too much about that in terms of colleges and pick what’s best for your course just conscious it’s hard to predict what flats will be like. That being said i would probs avoid townhouses if you’d prefer something quieter. Grizedale dale might be one to avoid with it being quite social and cartmel/Lonsdale could be a shout as they’re out of the way too :)

Hello Saif.I enjoyed this video, and thank you for taking the time to create it, and uploading to KZfaq :) As a retired Oxford Prof, and now living far away, I am always keen to view videos of Oxford. I have the advantage of recognizing most of the colleges filmed here, but there will be others who will have little idea of which specific college they are looking at, which is a bit of a shame, don`t you think, although you do list them above ? Anyway, as with your library guide video, still very nice to watch, so jolly good and well done :)

@@mohammedsaiffarooq7971 Thank you Saif - most kind. After retiring from my academic position, my late wife, who was a ' Kiwi ' wished to retire to New Zealand. With the sale of our Oxford property, we were able to buy a very fine, large and private property within some beautiful rural views. I returned to Oxford every other year until recently, but keep in touch with my academic interests through colleagues and various academic websites. I still buy most of my books from Blackwell`s :) You have now left Oxford you say ?? Then I do hope it made a good impression on you, and I wish you well with your future studies and anticipated career - super !!!!!

New Zealand - wow, that's quite a journey! 😯 I wonder how much Oxford has changed since you started. Yes, I've left and I'm continuing with my medical studies in Sunderland. Ah, Blackwell's; I sort of bounced between places. I did most of my work at the Brasenose library since I was part of that college. It also tended to be much quieter. I hope to stay in touch with the research group. The work was exciting. I wanted to maximise my access card, so I visited all the colleges and I'm glad I did. We even managed to get to the top of the Magdalen tower, which was great :)

@@mohammedsaiffarooq7971 Mmm, yes, I began my undergrad years in the mid 1960`s - and the classic buildings were all pretty grey and dirty back then. The major change that was occurring at the time ( and continued for some twenty five years ) was the educational requirement for all colleges to become bi-gender - all male colleges to admit female students, and all female colleges to admit male students. It was a process that faced stiff, and sometimes quite vocal opposition. There are a number of colleges that have been established since then, and of course the huge and important expansion of the medical research facilities, which are world class :) Regrettably, I know very little of Sunderland, either the university of the city. Thank you for responding Saif - it has been most rewarding :)

Ah yes, we heard about people carrying out at a funeral for the college which is insane 😯 They’re building exciting new things for the biosciences, we were in a temporary building and the lab were quite excited about the new building😯 lancaster was great, that uni start in the 1960s I believe. Sunderland is also a new I believe it got university status in the 1990s. The city is not too bad, close to Newcastle and much cheaper than Oxford. The course is amazing and the staff are really nice 😊

@@mohammedsaiffarooq7971 Thank you Saif - I do appreciate you taking the time to respond. I completely understand your comments regarding focus and areas of research. I think it would be fair to say that most students, especially in their initial years are able to tap into an enormous amount of support and relevant research material today than ever before - digital resources alone have had a dramatic effect in accessing essential core material - and will only continue to improve :) So sorry, that this video has only been viewed 69 times - it deserves far more :)

Hi Mohammed - my son has an interview here in December. He’s already stayed for the Medicine Summer School and really enjoyed it. Can I just ask please which is the preferred / nicest accommodation for first years? I know some is en-suite and some is not but just wondered which is generally seen as the nicest? Thanks.

I guess I’d say Scotia Quay, it’s ensuite and around £90 per week you can also get a river view. There is a refurbished Panns bank flat, that’s great and worth considering but costs a bit more than scotia Quay. There is also private accommodation but I would personally recommend staying in uni accommodation for the first year.
