i remember as a kid that i was always kinda scared of this game. the controls were hard, the vibe of the game was eerie so i never really played it. i preferred the bright and colorful super mario world or yoshis island instead.

I think it is NOT scary, but it is kinda psicodelic and that differenciates it from other mario games

Even though David Wise came back for Tropical Freeze, I really wasn't that impressed by the soundtrack. The man clearly peaked in DKC2 but it was a hell of a peak.

Excellent video! Came recommended to me as I was listening to some DKC and DKC2 tunes. You are totally right: The music of David Wise is special. Mining Melancholy is one of my absolute favorites (next to the more popular choices), glad you mentioned it as well. There are few games where I've felt the same connection to the music and its role in the game. One example for me is Return of the Obra Dinn for which game creator Lucas Pope himself wrote the music. Can't recommend it enough if you haven't played.

I think it could be the combination of abuse from his parents and being influenced by Gygas (the being's influence works on animals and humans alike) Also as somebody pointed out he never became tame, not through fighting, as he fled in the middle of the battle at the end of EB. Though what happened to every other creature corrupted by Gygas (those we skip over)? Did they return to normalcy once Gygas was defeated? If so why wouldn't Porky act normal again? Either he was too far gone because of how close he got to Gygas or he chose to continue being a horrible person after "being tamed".

The original Mother 1 ads might not have been great at the time but I guarantee today they are looked upon with much admiration. They have this very atmospheric mystique to them not found in many other ad campaigns, especially for what was considered a children's toy. In a post Stranger Things world, and how lucrative nostalgia mixed with a light unsettling creepiness is, these ads are extremely intriguing to many different demographics which is the whole point of a advertisement to begin with.

I'm old enough to have got this when it came out when I was 12, and I have genuinely never found this game disturbing or creepy. I think this is a generational thing. You're all used fully fleshed out worlds and textures so when you see something like this, it's creepy to you.

Ninten Knew about ness because his father told him
@val_halla776812 күн бұрын
One of my favorite pieces of evidence for Ninten being Buzz Buzz is this line from Giegue: "Foolish one, you cannot do a thing with your meager powers... Powers worthy of a lowly insect." It mirrors the Starman Jr.’s dialogue in Earthbound perfectly, and it makes me think that Giegue was the one who turned Ninten into an insect.

Presenting new ideas on old games certainly has an interesting take on the past. I wonder if sometimes people can make these games with these things in mind: "How does this, or will this, transform minds in the future? Against what backdrops could something like this happen with?" I wonder certainly.

I think you're exactly right. If it were released as an Indy game today it would be praised. Back then all people seemed to care about were bits, blast processing, and how cool any game looked. Games were not often seen as an adjunct to films or reading. Pushing the limit on video games is what sold video games. Now we seemingly have no limits and people are realizing the magic that can come from something seemingly so simple yet truly so complex. Simply put, Earthbound was ahead of its time.

What's weird is that Giygas's lair looks like organ pathways or tentacles. Then, as you get to the end of it, not only the devil's machine has Ness's face on it, but it also surprisingly looks like a woman's va*ina or u*erus. Not sure if that fits the theory, but it's pretty disturbing.

Damn I'm glad I found this video. You probably won't see this, but I loved it. Donkey Kong Country 2 has one of the best soundtracks of all time imo and I love hearing other people go in depth with how much they love it, I think you love it even more than I do haha! But seriously, I love what you said at the end. Music is special, it's an amazing artform and I absolutely adore music that is able to affect me the way that game's music has, the kind of music that makes me shed a tear, the kind of music that makes me feel like in that moment I understand exactly what the artist/creator was trying to convey. There's countless OSTs that make me feel that way, and everytime I listen to them, they make me realize just how beautiful, no, just how GORGEOUS music can be. Truly special. Great vid!

Donkey Kong Country is my earliest memory of video game music that has left an emotional impact on me. Of course i played alot of Mario World, All Stars, Sonic 2, and other games back then, but Donkey Country and its sequels are the first games where the music was so good i found myself pausing my snes just to listen to certain songs on loop and purposely going through levels for the music. Later games for the ps1 like the Spyro the Dragon Trilogy and Frogger: He's Back will give me similar feelings due to how much atmosphere, melodies, and interesting sounds the soundtrack goes through. The ps1 in general had so many ganes that made me appreciate the work that goes into video soundtracks.
