I met Joe at U Miami in 1973, had a lesson with Bredice. Joe spent thousands of hours with Slonimsky's Patterns in music. He's the only guitar player with one foot in tradition and yet totally modern, treating melodies based on consecutive 4ths, 5ths, etc as much as the typical thirds and arpeggios. Sadly, like Thelonius Monk, nobody to carry on his direction. I also like he rarely goes above the 12th fret, using the full tenor sax range, rather than the squeeky alto range preferred by most guitar players.

Joe Pass's book explained .."thinking chord" or reharmonize chords, passing chords, is all about harmony, then when you have the harmony ,you can create a melody on it

First, all of the musicians are fabulous and highly skilled. But, did ya notice that the groove didn’t really happen until the bass set it. That’s a lesson for all young jazz players. The drums (with the exception of the ride cymbal and hi hat) do not really set the beat in traditional jazz. It’s the bass that sets and maintains the groove. Excellent performance.

Did Emily fall victim to the curse of the Lonesome Guitar Strangler? I had thought that Dr John had wrote the song sometime after the death of Wes Montgomery but the lyrics actually predict the early death of those who copy him. The song plainly predicts the early deaths of Jimi Hendrix and Gabor Szabo. Was Ravi Shankar saved by Krishna?
