I love that two audience members apologized for their questions, this whole Q&A is such torture for him, such weirdly awkward personal questions combined with that feedback and tequila to top it all off

Quite amazing that at 59:30, after an hour of the worst mic feedback that would drive anyone insane and some pretty inane questions, the interviewer goes to ask for MORE questions from the audience. PTA finally hit the wall and pretty much just walks off the stage. A living legend of a filmmaker, he must have felt like he was in one of his own films for some of that, fucking hell the last half hour was like a struggle session.

Hearing filmmakers/actors talk about their work is always tedious and disappointing. Ya gotta just watch the movie and let it do it’s thing and make your own judgments

Imagine if we got a PTA film with Phoenix and Daniel Day Lewis in it. Imagine putting those two into a room with a camera and letting them loose.

Between the microphone feedback and the interviewer asking obtuse questions and like most artists he doesn't like explaining the meaning behind everything.

Go listen to his interview with Marc Maron. He’s much more relaxed there and answers questions in a much more open and enthusiastic way . He’s really a down to earth and wonderful person which doesn’t come across so much in this very formal and public situation .

Wow, I just passed 21:51 where the interviewer said Punch Drunk Love was his favorite film. Why tf would you say that right after watching his latest film? Must not have been thinking but OUCH

@Nomo_Popo4 жыл бұрын
@@marinebymistake It's nice to be honest but it's also a bit rude since he's interviewing him about his latest film at the time. Imagine you just made your latest big thing and you're talking to someone that just watched it and they said "yeah my favorite of yours is an old thing you did"

Watch minute 11. Look at PTA's posture and how he touches his legs and gestures when answering...then watch the master's in take scene and look at phoenix... literally the same exact movements...it's scary

His answer to that question about why certain thematics pop up is very similar to Nils Frahm talking about how he loves the little mistakes in his music. Jezus I could feel the heat of this place, so much people and this insensitive interviewer, constant fuck up with the microphone.

I think the ''commentaries'' question may refer to DVD or Blu-Ray commentaries. PT Anderson did some, but stopped doing them. As a guy who always want to know more about film, have directors commenting in their work is always a pleasure, but I understand that, for some directors out there, it may sound silly. Spielberg, for example, never did commentaries, which I find really sad, on the other hand, Coppola has a lot of great commentary tracks in his movies, so I'm always wishing more directors could do it.
