You would have really been impressed with the B-47. It had a chute deployed in flight as it was so streamlined it was difficult to slow to safe landing speed. On touchdown it deployed a big chute to slow down on the runway.

Most of the the Hawks have a Brake chute From the Mk60 onwards even the Post Mod 2010 T-1s have a Tailcone with a Brake chute box but never used.

It’s not an emergency brake chute. There is no such thing in aviation. A n emergency chute as cirrus uses is correct. This is just a drag chute.

Normal practice for a Hawk T2 on shorter runways, especially if landing heavy. Quite common when using the shorter runway at Valley.

I don't know if that is a new Hawk mk2. No idea they were going to fit brakes chutes. Is ut something that they are trialing? Not a clue
@simonbaxter800123 күн бұрын
@SimonAmazingClarke Easy to spot a T2 (especially when dark) as the red/green nav lights are on the side of the air intakes and not on the wing tips like a T1. It's because the T2 has wing tip weapons rails. T2 has a brake chute as it's a heavier aircraft than the T1. T1 doesn't.

NOT an emergency chute...normal to use the chute after landing
@jt82226 күн бұрын
Falcon 20 had this because of no reverse, usually when they came to our shop for engine work, they would deploy and repack as a safety check.
@mickey129922 күн бұрын
Oxford had the same deal with Learjets back in the 70's . The main runway length was such , that only the smaller Learjets could land there , 24 and light 35 series , and only with the use of the emergency braking chutes . The irony of this was , they also held a dealership deal as well . Runways longer now , almost twice , and they can handle quite large , and heavy jets .

When I served in the army they had Mig 21s and they all landed with chute as normal procedure. Then they released it while still on the runway and staff ran to pull it away. I think it was a compromise between landing interval and brake wear.
@carfvallrightsreservedwith66498 күн бұрын
Think the M21 was a copy of the F5E Tiger II, and we attached a new drag chute in tailcone after every flight.

@daigriffiths39925 күн бұрын
@@californiadreamin8423 I'd put my money on a hydraulic leak, but only the radio chatter would prove/disprove that. Most civilian airliners have two or three hydraulic systems, but if fluid is leaking onto your brake disks you are not going to have any braking force and your disks are almost certainly going to catch fire. I had the misfortune once to have a minor hydraulic leak on the front system of a motorcycle. I put a big dent in the back of the Leyland Mini that was stopped at a roundabout in front of me. No bikes, riders or drivers were hurt in the making of that dent.
