I wonder how/why this doctor can say this is not a composite. When I look up the definition of composite, I come up with "made up of various parts or elements". Then when I watch the company's primary video about this (at their website), it clearly says the product consists of (primarily silica based) nano-ceramic particles, metal (so it shows on an xray), glass, and silica based bonding element - in my mind that is 'various parts or elements'. In other words, a 'composite'. It is NOT a homogeneous single element. I don't think these guys knows what they are talking about. Maybe they meant, "This new product is not like traditional composites, as they use different materials that do not use methacrylate-based monomers. They are still composites however, merely using different silica based elements".
@jennyelenihealth3 жыл бұрын
yes, I'm also wondering what they're saying or NOT saying. A 'modified organic composite' What exactly does that even mean? And isn't silica loaded with nanoparticles?

Could someone please provide some information on what the metal atoms are. Another comment said they are probably zirconium, aluminum, or barium. Do they provide an ingredient list for these types of materials? Is any of this released during the curing process or use?
@VOCOAmerica4 жыл бұрын
We use silicon oxide glass that additionally contains barium salt. 3rd party cytotoxicity tests have proven than Admira Fusion is probably most biocompatible resin based restorative material available at this time. Please see www.voco.dental/us/portaldata/1/resources/products/scientific-reports/us/Admira_Fusion_Scientific_Compendium.pdf

I am really enthusiastic about this product though the statement of it containing additional metals of which are not specified draws questioning? Can this get addressed please?
@avicenna84385 жыл бұрын
It seems that the metal ions are added to increase radiopacity (this was mentioned in the video). Radiopacity is the ability to show up on an x-ray, and it is a property that I think all dental fillings have to some extent. I'm not sure why it's so important to the manufacturers; perhaps dentists want to be able to identify fillings on an x-ray scan. I'm not an expert, but after doing a little research I've found that zirconium, aluminum, and barium are, among others, some of the metals used to increase radiopacity. Again, it seems that all fillings use these types of metals, so I'm not sure whether Admira Fusion is any different from an average dental composite in this regard. There's an interesting research paper which you can find by searching for this: "Radiopacity of Dental Materials - Avicenna Journal of Dental Research"

The benefit of the innovative ORMOCER technology is that all ingredients are based on the same main component, which is silicon oxide. This applies to the resin monomers and the fillers. The fillers can simply be seen as conventional glass, which is pure silicon oxide. However, to increase the visibility under X-ray, dental glass fillers contain additional components to a little extend. These could be aluminum, barium or ytterbium. They are not incorporated in the glass structure as pure elementary metal, but as metal oxides or metal salts. For instance, aluminum oxide or barium sulfate. In case of Admira Fusion product family we use silicon oxide glass that additionally contains barium salt.

Fuji and other makers leach fluoride for it's anti-bacterial properties. Do the Fusion have any anti-microbial ingredient?
@VOCOAmerica6 жыл бұрын
Fuji is a Glass Ionomer material. While it is great for its class and its intended use, it is not a permanent restorative material. Admira Fusion is a permanent restorative. To have a significant effect of fluoride you need an ion exchange and this would make Admira Fusion weaker. Due to its low shrinkage and shrinkage stress Admira Fusion reduces the chances of secondary carries as long the patient keeps a good oral hygiene.
