There's no way you could argue that the coming of Jesus Christ to this world didn't change history as a whole and the world would considerably be very different nowadays without the influence of Christianity. With that being said, if Christ didn't appear two thousand years ago, would the world now be a better scenario for the Messiah to come? For one I don't think jewish prophecy and scripture would've been so relevant, maybe even forgotten in such scenario.
@JulianGentry3 сағат бұрын
Today would not have been better. Jesus is the God of the Jews, and God sent the Jews prophecy that said he'd arrive at a certain time in the past. That's why modern Jews actually say there's NO hope for the Messiah to come anymore

Is this the manner in which you uphold your faith? You just revealed to us that the mythology of ancient Egypt and Rome served as a major inspiration for the man-made religion of Christianity. You have confirmed that Christianity is a hybrid of Judaism and Roman and Egyptian mythology by projecting Jesus into some of the criteria that the pagans used to interpret God. I apologise, but you have not proven anything. Probably, you are not at fault because Christianity is such a fragile faith and almost seems insulting to human intellect when we examine its core doctrines and historical foundation.Continue your search, you may one day discover what is the truth. Good luck!

The counter-argument on resurrection is a bad one. It is said (with some accuracy, although this needs to be put into perspective since Osiris has been linked to vegetation) that Osiris does not follow the pattern of the "dying-and-rising" god - but neither does Jesus. This dying-and-rising consists of a periodic death and resurrection, provoking or symbolizing the cycles of nature, the seasons in particular. We have Tammuz, Attis, Persephone and so on. There's nothing like it with Jesus, who dies once and resurrects once, like Osiris. Osiris is very similar to Jesus in this respect, and to deny it ruins the rest of the demonstration.

You were making the argument that all of those characteristics were things humans of that time would think of as godly. Under that same logic couldn't you say that Yahweh is the most fake god since he has all the same characteristics that humans would bestow to him.

This is pretty much skewed: other deities ended being worship pretty much because when Christianity became a majority at late III and early IV centuries, it turned on Jewish mode to erase all other religions by destroying their temples and killing their priests. Also the temple was destroyed in 70 because the Hebrews were to reject Jesus. This was known by the Father and by the Son as well. If for any reason Jesus came earlier or later, the Temple would either crumble earlier or be just fine for longer because it was tied to Jesus, not the other way around.

Jesus had to come when people were more credulous, when people needed gods to explain the world - these days He'd have to actually move mountains to prove himself, and even then social media would spin it a dozen ways - Jesus just couldn't cope with the internet I guess

One must also consider that all religions of the world can be lumped into two groups: doing and done. You must work your way to eternal life, or God in his mercy provided it to all who wish as a free gift.

The problem I have with this is God said the nation of Israel were his chosen people for all time. The gentiles have no place in that covenant God made with the descendants of Israel. Why would God have a sudden change of heart? This is why I can't get into Christianity. It doesn't make sense. Are the Jew chosen or not? If so, then we are not. If they are not chosen, than God broke his covenant with them in favour of the gentiles.

I'll try and be brief. (See the TL;DR at the end if you want) The Tower of Babel was an attempt by humans to reach God. They disobeyed Him in many ways. He scattered them throughout the earth because of their disobedience. After that time, He took Israel as His own because Abraham was willing to listen to Him (Deuteronomy 32:8-9). All the other nations were cast out, but they were also promised to be brought back eventually: Genesis 22:18 - Abraham's seed will bless "all the nations" Psalm 22:27 - All the nations will worship God Isaiah 9:2 - The other nations will eventually see the light Daniel 7:14 - People of all nation will serve God There are many other examples in the text. Hebrews is a book written to the Jews to help them understand. Hebrews 8 and 9 explains that the first covenant could not save people from Hell. It was a covenant meant for a specific time, to keep the Jews sanctified. But Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant, and saved people for all time. This salvation comes from the Jews, but is extended to the Gentiles. Hebrews 11 shows that people are saved not by works (which the old covenant had) but through faith. The works of the Mosaic Law showed that people had faith, but it was their faith that saved them. TL;DR You are right that God chose the Jews. But He did not choose them alone for eternal salvation. They were His chosen people to carry the promise of salvation from Adam through to the Messiah. Then the Messiah (Jesus) came to save not only the Jews, but the Gentiles as well - anyone that has faith in Jesus. That's why Paul was sent out. (Acts 13:44-14:7)
