Cool!! Thanks for the video. Maybe a stupid question but, the thread color dictates the color of the fly, not the vinyl?
@fishingjack17 күн бұрын
Thanks David, yes that’s correct. The vinyl will take on the color of the thread and add some translucency 👍🏼

any chance you can try making a video for the bare basic setup rig for the absolute beginner fishing in places like San Juan or Pecos, etc.?

I like this video. It was short and to the point and you made some very valid observations that I think will benefit people quite a bit. Your delivery and annunciation, etc. was well done and you’re easy to listen to. I am an old timer and fish the San Juan river below Navajo Dam in Northwest New Mexico and I certainly agree with presentation as being the key. I become very stubborn swapping flies because I know they will eat things that come right down into their face, but I also feel that that is a negative and that I should probably switch bugs more often when slow. this was good Food for thought that I can respect. I have a major float trip tomorrow with a group of buddies and I will implement some of what you said for sure because lately the fish have been super picky as to what they eat. Anyway, just wanted to say good job and, I look forward to watching another one of your videos. Take care, Scott.

Twisting the line like that seems to negate the purpose of an easily, and quickly adjustable threaded indicator. Oros definitely tend to slip when attached to anything thinner than 1x. Most of the time I end up using the washer from an airlock on my oros and that stays in place better than any other indicator I’ve fished. I’ve heard air-lock’s version of the oros holds a little better, but still slips a little bit.

Just found your channel! Lots of nice videos! I’m headed to Durango in about 3 weeks and I’ll be hitting the San Juan for sure. Will midge patterns be a go to in July?? Keep posting these great videos!
@fishingjackАй бұрын
Thank you! Yes midges will be the way to go. Size 22-26 will be best in a few weeks. 👍🏼

Weight and depth my friend. Far more important than the flies you’re using.

What fly rod and reel do you use and do you have a universal lure?
@fishingjackАй бұрын
It’s a 9’5 wt orvis. Not sure what reel. We were using a red annelid.

Here the synthetic is equally buoyant as CDC in that it also supports bubbles of air. While being many times more durable.

Looks like fun. Were you able to sight fish them yet? What flies were you using?
@fishingjack2 ай бұрын
Yes, it was a bit cloudy but you can definitely sight fish now on a sunny day in shallow water. Still some algae floating down later in the day but it hasn’t affected their eating very much.

Believe in JESUS today, confess and repent of your sins. No one goes to heaven for doing good but by believing in JESUS who died for our sins. "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. "(Romans 10:9-10)☺️

Chocolate or olive give a more accurate indication of shade and depth of tone required. Chocolate indicating a warm shade of brown. Olive be it light, medium, dark or golden. Again a natural and neutral tone rather than bottle, highland, or even a fluorescent in your face tone. I hope this helps your viewers. Like yourself I prioritise , size, silhouette, colour, and tone of pattern with gauge of the hook also a major factor influencing the choice. Allow for the balance matching the expected fish size and how fast do you need that hook to reach depth in the water or do you need that pattern to remain on or just under the surface. Information that many newbies have not yet considered and some ole hands can forget about. As in allowing for flow of water in faster or more turbulent water a heavier hook is needed to get down in the water be it using a stronger hook using a bead on the fly or a split shot to get that fly down.

I won a fly tying contest with that pattern.... ;)
