Less chat would be FAR more entertaining. I had to stop the video at 7 minutes as I couldn't take any more "narration", sorry.....

The really big danger here is that the terrible extra weight of ice on deck if not chipped can compromise the ship stability

The vessels are built to withstand turbulent seas with waves up to 35-45 feet; anything beyond that will cause damage. (Cruise ships) Rogue waves over 80 feet can actually puncture the hull and cause severe harm.

Some of these ships look to be in excellent condition and its sad to see the older style ships going to scrap. They are better looking than the ships of today and it just doesn't make sense they are scrap value only. Such a waste not to mention the environmental pollution to make them and then prematurely scrap them. With all the homeless people these ships would be OK moored and let people live on them until the housing shortage is fixed. Stupid politicians!!

The video clips brought back memories of my seafaring days back in the early 1970s. I had a few stormy seas during that time. The captains I worked for were very good sailors. Their knowledge and experience ensured their ships could ride through the rough seas. By adjusting the speeds and courses, they managed to get the rhythms of the waves to reduce the stress on the ships' hulls as much as possible. When the ships' hulls shuddered and creaked, the noises were really scary. The South China Sea, the ocean off the Cape of Good Hope, and the Mediterranean were where I had these stormy experiences. I had absolute faith on my captains in those days, and they hadn't failed me once. I was a radio officer at my early 20s then, and now I'm 75, so I could look back with awe and appreciation. Good luck to all sailors still crisscrossing the oceans. The world needs you.
