I think I commented on this video before. I just wanted to touch on a point you made in a previous video. Where you warned about how expensive of a hobby buying boots can be. You also offered an alternative such as getting into denim. I didn’t get the message then, but I definitely get it now. I’m now on my trying out denim phase and it is exciting. I’m reminded of how much I liked when jeans fade. This goes back to when I was a kid. Just wanted to say thanks again for being a “real” one. Later.

If you're going to cut the W and the patch off the back pockets, why not just cut the pockets off too? After all, who uses the back pockets anyway? There is more than enough room in the front pockets for wallets and tobacco tins and all the other junk a man could want to carry in his pockets.

Smoking crack on saying it’s better than a 501. The pockets are fucking useless
@thevintagefuture656715 күн бұрын
I mean, it's all opinion I guess. But I find the pockets perfectly useful with all my Wranglers. 501 was arguably a primitive design, not popular because it was better but because they got the jump on the west-coast market and knew how to make profitable business relationships in the 1900s. There were literally hundreds of brands with different jean designs in the 1800s and 1900s, most extinct by now; so it would be ignorant to think the 501 prevailed simply because it was the best design (it wasn't). It prevailed due to business factors. And it's what people are used to now, so they throw a fit if you challenge their status quo by trying to critically and objectively assess 501....By the way, I'm a HUGE 501 fan, but if I'm being fair, I can't claim it's the greatest jean design of all time; that's just completely untrue if you study denim history (check out Jeans of the Old West by Michael Harris, for instance....or a historic denim edition of Lightning Magazine).

I'm a little stumped as I've measured my feet exactly like in the video but it says I'm a D and there's no way in hell I can be a D. I measured my left foot to be 11 inches in width around the foot with a tailors tape. I've never fit shoes with D widths I've always preferred EE. I ordered Nicks boots in 12.5 E and they didn't even fit me I had to go up a width.
@thevintagefuture656715 күн бұрын
I mean, it's all relative. And the Brannock doesn't always translate into real life. For instance, 12.5EE and 13E and 13.5D are all roughly the same (not exactly, but roughly). The problem is, most shoe/boot companies only sell D/E/maybe EE, so in real life we're forced to buy whatever is closest to our foot shape and size. Brannock is a device that gives objective knowledge of what our foot is, but doesn't necessarily dictate that we will be able to find something with that size label in the real world. Does this make sense? Am I understanding your situation correctly?
@Equinox4O715 күн бұрын
@thevintagefuture6567 Thank you for your response. That was helpful. The brannock device isn't perfect but it does at least get somewhat close to what your size could be yeah. I've never had issues with length only width on shoes I've tried. I'm about a EE in Nicks or 11 inches in width like I said. Most standard 13 US shoes do fit me but I was hoping now that I had my own brannock device I could get some answers in regards to my width but oh well.

thank you so much for this great explanation video. from my experience this will never work with British and italian shoemaker brands , i know how to use Brannock device decade ago . my size on brannock 10.5 which is the conversion charts says 9.5-10.5 UK size and 43-44 Italian size, i have more than 20 italian and british shoes and boots all my italian shose sizes are 42 and the UK shoes and boots size 8 and 8.5 some brands 7.5 and some times 8, like tricker, john lobb, crockets & johns , faragammo , santoni , carmina and TLB. all this brands i wear size 8 ,8.5 uk and 42 euro size .one more thing i would like to say is to get your best fit is to try the shoes physically at the store buying online is a big risk specifically for overseas shipping . thank you so much again for the video 👍👍

That's a bit misleading if Minoru creates a special overdye to promote them but then delivers a different product. Then again you should keep wearing them over the years to come and see how they age. They will end up looking good still

I love sugar canes and flat heads, but sometimes I wonder why the Japanese repro style companies rarely ever (if at all) use poly/cotton thread instead of 100% cotton for stitching. I guess that a lot of denim dorks (like myself) love the "true vintage" aesthetic of having your stitching fall apart in the crotch and back pockets. However, I regularly wonder that if I'm going to be spending $250-$350 on some Levis repros, it would be nice if there were some Japanese companies that would start tapping into the market of guys who wants the repro style jeans with objectively superior modern features such as the poly/cotton stitching and lined back pockets. I have a couple pairs of Iron Hearts that I love that have all these features, but their cuts kind of miss the mark in my opinion due to being too slim, whereas the repro companies seem to have cuts that work better for my thicker legs
@lt388024 күн бұрын
For me the way the threads come apart and invite repair is part of the charm that tells the story of the jeans, just like fades do. It makes it feel more unique and personal, and its satisfying to feel like you are putting new life into something rather than assuming it will last forever.
@thevintagefuture656722 күн бұрын
yeah I feel this too....as much as I love the old school all-cotton vibe, I wouldn't want it on every pair. It gets wearisome having to repair every main pair of mine every 6 months....Also, this has helped me realize that a product is only as durable as its weakest part. So you could have a pair of jeans which as a whole will last 20 years, but if the crotch will only last 5 years of hard wear (including darning and other repairs during that time), technically the jeans only last 5 years, not 20.
@justynmoore967024 күн бұрын
Another great video david, i wish there were more options for jeans with alot of these characteristics, like a nice selvedge denim. High backpockets, smooth rivets on the back pocket with a classic straight fit, any suggestions?
@thevintagefuture656722 күн бұрын
not really any suggestions unfortunately....the closest is Mister Freedom, but they are similar only in certain aesthetic features. My guess is that Wrangler hasn't been copied by heritage brands because they're hard to improve on and already have a cult following for their modern product.

Love the update, Dave. What do you wear on the summer? Do you ever do boots with shorts? Obviously not ones as tall as your clinch.
@thevintagefuture656724 күн бұрын
I don't really wear boots with shorts, although residential construction workers do that a lot. I don't wear shorts much to begin with. If I do wear shorts, I usually wear sandals.....In the summer, these days I'm usually wearing 6" boots or shoes like my Oakstreet moccasins or my Red Wing moc toe shoes. I also wear engineer boots in the summer if it's not too hot or if I'm gonna be inside with AC most of the day. I feel like chukkas and shoes are go-to for most people during the summer....Also, I wear wool socks all year round (thinner ones in summertime). Wool breathes better than cotton, even in the summertime.

I have three pairs of selvedge jeans (two Levi's and a pair of Frame) and 11 pairs of various wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans. The 13s are great for work. There's a lot of room up top. When I dress casually just to do whatever I usually grab the 36 or 47. They're tighter in the seat but have a better look, in my opinion. I dig vintage stuff but I also dig comfort. But what do I know? I just recently got into heritage style boots. My opinion might not qualify as legit.

I know that some of the actors are wearing Levi’s, but the rise you get in today’s STFs isn’t as high as those older models. I gotta give the Wranglers a try! Thanks for taking the time to film and edit this review! Definitely helpful. Subscribed! Let me know if you can find a decent pair of chinos that have a higher rise than the norm, are 100% cotton, and not super baggy (I.e Steve McQueen chinos). I’ve been hitting a dead end.
