I resumed the game only about 2 weeks ago, so I don't necessarily have much perspective to assess the situation. Especially since time zones have to be taken into account, for my part I live in France. So I mainly play in the late afternoon / early evening. (which gives 15:00 UTC if I'm not mistaken ><) Nevertheless, in my schedule, the AAS server looks decently populated, there are mainly European and Russian players (unless I am mistaken). There is also AI, so there are targets to shoot even if there are no human opponents. The action is quite fast (you don't have to drive too long to fight someone, the maps are "small" and more "corridor"). The FVP (Finnish Virtual Pilot) server seems to be populated later, I think there are many American players on it. As for tanks, there are always a few but the games last 5 hours, you can fall in the low point and in these moments playing in tanks can be boring. These are the 2 main servers that come to mind when I think of tanks although it is possible to fly planes on both servers. Don't forget, since you seem to have Il-2, that you can try tanks thanks to the 2 free models, the Pz.III L from the video for the Germans and the T34 STZ 1942 for the Russians. They are not the most powerful nor the most armored tanks but it can give you an idea of the gameplay (their interior is much less detailed than TC's) and it can allow you to play with them, at your own time and to see by yourself if there are people online.

If you are talking about the travel lock, it is demanded in the training manuals that you keep it on in transit, otherwise you will wear out the bearings that support the gun. It is realistic. Obviously, German engineering practices are at odds with their operational use, so aces like Wittman still fired on the move all the time
