@bmformworkconcreteconstruc97832 күн бұрын
Probably as long as they are strong enough. I’ve never seen them used. Wood clamps strong enough for the concrete pressures would cost far far more than the clamps I use in this video.

How does the cost compare to conventional stud and plasterboard walls? Where would you find specs for these walls for residential use?

I don’t know what the cost is per m2 for stud and plasterboard. If you provide that I can help. However I’m going to build my own house and it is cheaper and quicker for me to do concrete walls…

I like the idea of not having to buy snap ties for each project. Just learning as much as possible and this technique seems a bit more sensible than snap tie... I'd like more vids with this tie of form ply work
@bmformworkconcreteconstruc978322 күн бұрын
I have often wondered the opposite. But have never used snap ties. Some of the jobs we do now are far to big to use snap ties or even coil ties. But as you know, with this kind of work often it is best to just stick to what you know as if it goes wrong it’s not good!

How high above the pitch line did you fix the stringers and why?

I fix the string because it’s faster and more accurate nailing each riser to a ply string rather than drilling into hollow bricks. It’s about 30mm above

Hi mate, may I ask why you put the stringer between the wall and the the timber? Some of that formworker just nail to the wall directly. Thank you!
@bmformworkconcreteconstruc9783Ай бұрын
It’s easier faster and more accurate nailing ply cleats to the ply string. Because the wall is hollow bricks you have to drill and fix every individual riser. You do get very quick at this method but my string method is far quicker. I did it for about 10years for each method and string is much better.
@bmformworkconcreteconstruc9783Ай бұрын
You also don’t need to cut the risers to length as accurately with the ply string.

@LincolnLog2 ай бұрын
Youre a true professional. I made the mistake of pouring too fast (more tham 2 foot lifts, no inner ties) and some of the form work let go. Also the pressure caused my walls to be out of plumb. Were talking about over 400 feet of a property lined U-shaped planter. Couldnt vibe the 2nd top half of it because i knew the forms wouldve exploded so there are places that need patching. Felt sick to my stomach but it is what it is. Shouldve stuck to my original plans to pour first half of the wall first with the footing then the other half of the wall.
@bmformworkconcreteconstruc97832 ай бұрын
Sounds like you should have used ties! A quick concrete pressure calculation from google or chat gpt will tell you have much pressure to allow for. Then you just have to make your forms strong enough to hold that much weight. Never design around pouring slow. Build it to suit maximum concrete pressure as sometimes the concrete doesn’t go off or is a high slump or gets poured fast or plasticiser is added which all keep the concrete at maximum pressure. Build forms to suit that.
@bmformworkconcreteconstruc97832 ай бұрын
And yes that sick feeling is something every Formworker understands. At many points in your career you will experience it.
@LincolnLog2 ай бұрын
@@bmformworkconcreteconstruc9783 reading your advice regarding designing with maximum concrete pressure vs pour speed is really helpful. I prioritized it backwards and it bit me. Pour was a 2.5 inch line pump so had to use plasticizer. Thanks again and hope to see more vids!

It is oil. To repel the water in the concrete. If you repel the water from the surface you will get more cement against the forms which creates a stronger, smoother finish with less air bubbles.

Very nice work. I appreciate your attention to detail and well thought out processes. Do you prefer to nail the packet and cleat from the side to the riser as in the video? Why not face nail the riser to the cleat? Seems like it would make for a cleaner face to not have the end of plys on the concrete. But it would offset the cleat from your layout, so perhaps not as convenient in that case. Curious of your thoughts. Thanks for sharing
