I think you're overplaying the beers a bit - nobody cares if you order coors. Also, it's perfectly acceptable to say you're not doing rounds and just get your own drinks if you know you need to leave early or you don't want to commit to having like five pints

More than ever, being smart with travel/train tickets is a must. You can pay eye-wateringly high prices for travel if not careful and there's nothing worse than having a holiday limited by such costs. The comment on football shirts..... PLEASE take it to heart and maybe hold off on wearing them at all. Some of the most intense rivalries are within cities (Manchester United and Manchester City and multiple london-based teams) and weekends are likely to have at least one team playing at home.... please be carefull. When ordering any beer, lager or ale, and you see a lot of confusing beer pumps and names, just admit to the barman you are a bit lost and ask what they have thats like your favourite brand.... unless they are super busy, most barmen will happily run through what they have.... after all, many Brits will do the same when going to a new pub/area. Like any country, we have certain areas more prone to rain, with Manchester one of the dampest tourist spots.... there is a reason that parkas are associated with the area. Even if its a sunny day, have a lightweight waterproof packed and ready to use.

As a former frequent flyer: yes. BUT why would you subject yourself and your loved ones on the first day of your hopefully spectacular holiday to that level of stress ? Nah. Plan at least 3-4 hours.

Most of times 45 minutes isn’t even enough for a domestic flight, much more for an overseas one. Thanks for the video.

Short answer: no way and don’t do that to yourself. Also, same for the opposite direction, traveling to the US - a 45mim connection to eg catch your flight to NYC from London or Frankfurt etc is not enough

Our layover in Frankfurt was 1h 20min. They landed the place on one side of the airport, taxied all the way to the other side, then we had to take a bus back to where we landed, then we had to run all the way back to the other side where our gate was. By the time we got to our gate, people were lined up to board.

How much time do you need to arrive to airport to check in for flights in US? They recommend 2 hours before your flight, is that usually necessary? I have. 5:30 am flight.

That depends on many factors. Since your flight is very early, there will likely be no lines anywhere, so you can probably breeze through much faster than during a heavier part of the day. Also, what kind of airport? Is it a small regional airport, or a major hub? I always allow plenty of extra time at the big airports like ATL, ORD, DFW, and even DEN and LAX. However, if it's a small-town airport, the security line probably won't be any longer than 5 minutes. Also, do you have Clear, Precheck, or Global Entry? Any of those can shave time off the process, too.

That depends on what airline you’re flying with. I was waiting for a connecting flight to Rome in Singapore after flying in from Sydney and it was probably about an hour. With other airlines you would have to wait a bit longer.

Yup, I've even missed a three-hour connection because of some equipment problems and delays. It's bad enough being stuck in an airport, but it's even worse when it's in another country and your options are a bit more limited.

Even when I fly domestic in the US I don’t do under 2 hours because I did have a 55 min connection and we ended up missing it because we sat on the runway for and we’re delayed. If I fly internationally I go with at least a 3 hour layover!!!!
@ajs11201
@ajs11201 Сағат бұрын
I came here to make the same comment. I won't accept anything less than a 2-hour layover for domestic flights--much more for internationals. There's nothing worse than watching the back of an airplane as it flies away without you. If everything ends up running smoothly and I have time to burn, I'll gladly find a watering hole somewhere in the terminal and relax with a cup of coffee (or cocktail, depending on the time of day) and casually make my way to the gate a little before boarding time. It's a far, far better way to start a vacation than spending a night trying to sleep in an airport because of a missed connection instead of being at your destination.

Just a few tips from an (ex)Londoner to add to Wolter's excellent tips: 1. You don't have to tip pub barmen if you're just ordering a drink. If you go to a pub for a meal, you should tip the waiter or waitress. 2. I echo Wolter's advice on free museums, they are so worth it and some of the best in the world. If you're into military history then as well as the Imperial War Museum there's the National Army Museum in Chelsea, the HMS Belfast (a WW2 era cruiser) moored near Tower Bridge and the amazing RAF Museum in Colindale in the outer suburbs which is on a par with most aviation museums in the world. 3. Take a walk around Hampstead. It's a bit of an artists and writers neighbourhood but there's so much 18th century and Regency architecture there and plenty of good restaurants and cafes. 4. Get into the countryside. There's a long standing tradition called "public right of way" where you follow paths that weave in and out of farmland, woods and meadows; some of these paths are centuries old. You can get or download excellent rural walk guides from the Ordinance Survey site. 5. Stonehenge is amazing to visit, but it costs if you want to get up close to see the rocks but you're not allowed to go right next to them or touch them. For a different ancient British experience, head on down to Avebury in Wiltshire; all you pay for is parking and you can go right up to the stone circle. Other great ancient spots are the White Horse at Uffington, Silbury Hill and Wayland Smithy (inspiration for the Simpson's character name) which are all thousands of years old. Wayland Smithy is as old as the Pyramids. 6. There are actual stately homes within London so you don't have to travel out to the countryside to see them. Apsley House in the centre of London is one and it's the home of the Duke of Wellington so it's also a museum about his life, Kenwood House in Hampstead, North London, which has an amazing art collection, grounds and it's free! Then there's Osterley Park in West London which feels like you're in the countryside but is actually in London.

Tea is NOT the same as dinner. Tea is a totally separate thing. It happens at around 5pm, and involves tea (the drink) and also some sandwiches and cake. It was invented as a way of getting the family to assemble in the garden, or the dining room, or the conservatory, for a formal event - thereby enabling the servants to turn-down the beds, stoke the fires, and lay out the evening clothing in the bedrooms in readiness for Dinner, which would occur sometime later, in formal attire. Tea is now commonly used to describe a late afternoon or early evening meal, but NOT specifically dinner. Dinner is generally a larger meal, and is often formal. After dinner we have Supper - which, again, is not the same as Dinner.

The UK has very low driver fatality and accident rates, even among other developed countries, so driving should not be too scary. Do be careful on country roads though, hedges block vision and there isn't always room to pass other cars, so get as small a car that you can get away with. Almost all rural roads are paved so you don't need a 4x4 or similar if you're travelling in the countryside (unless there's an ice risk naturally)

I would recommend the legion of honor art museum, there’s some great coastal hiking walking distance from the museum as well. I drive because I’m out late and public transit closes at 12, and locals never pay for the muni lol. Always park in a neighborhood that doesn’t have any glass along the curb. Never leave anythingggg visible in your car parked, but sometimes you’ll get bipped either way.

As an Austrian, and I mean that in the most respectful way possible, pls if you come to Austria, please stay the hell out off our woods and mountains! There are far too many tourists getting lost, underestimating distance, the rapid weather changes, sudden temperature drops below freezing even in August and the danger of averlanches of the alpes as well as not respecting farming and forestry and getting hurt. And our mountaineers and rescue services have to then risk their own lives going out in the night and searching for them. Like you can stick to the marked trails, and such, but always inform yourselves about difficulty, weather, hiking culture and taboos. And especially in winter respect that all the animals need their resting seasons and with tons of ppl running around, some will die of the pure stress. And don't take your dogs to a hike. Out cattle in the alps are free roaming and mother cows will attack if they feel threatened by what is basically a wolf for them, and tourists have been killed.

I recently flew overseas - and because my first flight was very delayed, I finally rebooked both flights because if I didn't, I would have to spend a night in a hotel at my layover location ---- vs go back home. And I ended up one day late getting to my destination. (Multi-week trip, so no reason to cancel for being one day late). So I would still get nothing with the new rules?
