After I got back home from the hospital I listened to it again and finally heard the end of the song and understood it was a hopeful song then! It helped me get stronger against the depression! Personally i feel like comparing the verses takes away from the track. They both killed it. Picturing Jay talking to reporters and critics about the hood. And picturing Em talking to them about their hypocrisy... Just such an incredible song by two of the best to ever do it.

"one take" this is the analog era. Music was recorded on tapes. You couldn't just punch in like they do now. Verses had to be done in one or two takes pretty much.
