If you haven't read Heavier Than Heaven, you might want to look at it, because it devotes a few grafs to Cobain listening to The Knack album and it serves as a kind of rosetta stone into how Cobain experiences music. First, he is an enthusiast for the _whole_ album, not just "Sharona". Secondly, it is not a nostalgia trip for him, either: he gets into the record in the mid to late eighties. He plays it for a friend, full of unashamed excitement for the record, and they're taken aback because they're already familiar with the band and the "Sharona" song, so they assume Cobain and everyone else their age is as well - and, equally important, this is not the kind of album that punk rockers should be getting excited about. The whole episode hints at Cobain's idiosyncratic path through music and why his songs ended up being both melodic and so eccentric in their texture.

I hate that book but that song is SO Nirvana! I heard it again the other day and it just jumps out of the speakers. It is just so much like what Kurt did. It really is the blueprint song for Nirvana's ouevre

5:36 is a song from "Chronic Town" that Kurt also listed in his Journals. I was always quite surprised he picked "Green" in his list and not another one, but I never took Kurt's list as "definitive". He wrote more than one, it varied.

Apparently, he's quoted as saying he wanted to make an album inspired by Automatic for the People after exorcising his more abrasive nature with In Utero. Automatic was also the last thing Cobain listened to before his suicide. I know Courtney's a fan of Reckoning as well. He probably liked more than half of their discography at one point.
@dummytree7 күн бұрын
@@evanwright9016 Yeah, that's right. Courtney quoted "Pretty Persuasion". Automatic for the People makes total sense,, and after all Nirvana had worked with Scott Litt already.

My Sharona has one of the GREATEST GUITAR SOLOS EVER! The Vinyl copy we had had a visible look change where the Solo on My Sharona started from trying to learn it. Entire album is PURE GOLD! ZOOM and Serious Fun were great 90's era Knack albums.

Hiro heavily inspires me as an Asian American his bass playing was so heavy and he makes me feel less afraid to be Asian in those certain areas in our country especially playing punk and hardcore but Hiro did just that so he inspired me greatly 🇯🇵🇰🇷

First... and I remember when the whole 'Grunge' scene exploded. It was new, fresh, there were no more haircut bands allowed and I barely listened to any of it. However, I understood why it was so popular. The change in the dynamic of rock music was that quick. One night the sun went down in Los Angeles the next day it came up over the cascades and shined down on Seatown.
