Spock, McCoy and Scotty should have visited Kirk's burial ground, since those three were still around in Picard's timeline.

The opening song reminds me of the one major flaw in the whole series: the music. Terrible choices. That episode with Christopher and the musicians was particularly painful. I muted the songs. They were so awful.

Studio's main driver was to pull the two captains together for enticing fans of TOS and TNG to the cinema. They did not write a good script to really capture the magnitude of characters like Kirk, Spock and McCoy AND the TNG cast. I really wish they had done a better job of writing a remarkable script. Kirk's death was terribly executed, the main protagonist was weak. And even in this movie ending, why leave Kirk buried on the planet when Starfleet vessels were arriving to take the 'D' crew back. A fitting ending would have to be repatriate Kirk's body, bring him back to Starfleet HQ, and do a very emotional celebration to honour his legacy. Oh well.
