It is! Just be sure to scrub any personal donor data when doing analysis in an insecure platform like ChatGPT 😊

Hey Joanne, Great video !!! My wife and I normally have a donor appreciation day for our donors. We also try to remember donors' birthdays and we only send ask requests 2 to 3 times a year.

I have no idea if I am at the right place. I am a grandmother helping to raise my grandchildren after their mother's suicide. Their Mother ended her life six yrs. ago by jumping from the Coronado bridge near San Diego. She had severe issues with alcohol and was in six rehabs before choosing this route. My son has been simply devastated since this happened. He says about her, "That's the only woman I will love". The kids need money for clothes and shoes for middle- and first-year high school. I would like them to have money to pay the fees for soccer as well. They both are all star players. Dad is trying to keep a job after a bad car wreck and now a possible stroke. We have just been evicted from our home because we couldn't pay the rent due to job loss and a stroke . I have relocated to SoCal to help raise these kids and would try to work, but I was a Realtor before from Kansas City area and I simply don't know if I can pass the test and I am so lost but could use an iPhone. Money is now starting to be a huge problem. Does this sound like something kind people would donate to help these kids using GoFundMe?

Great video Joanne!!! However, nonprofits need to be aware of the IRS restrictions when it comes to the public support test and also if they consider themselves independent directors they can't fundraise at ALL because of Sarbanes Oxley Act

Thanks, Wayne, but board members should assist with fundraising. It is general practice that the board should open doors, solicit donations, and even join the ED on solicitation calls. From what I read, the SOX is just about storing information, isn't it?

The IRS sets a public support test for nonprofits that want to stay public charities here in the United States in a 509(a)(2) nonprofit any board donations will count against the organization maintaining its Public charity status and in 509(a)(1) organizations the board can not give more than 2% of the total income of the organization. Please g search Public support test IRS

Mmmmmk well charities can lie about their financials, make up good sounding values that they don’t practice so I want to know how to see through that. I don’t feel like this gave me the info I needed to determine if a charity is a scam.

They can move numbers around. I only donate to a charity if it has audited financials, and I double-check by Googling its 990 through the IRS. I get to meet a lot of nonprofits doing this job and I have run into a few that give the sector a bad name, but there mostly goo done. Sorry, I can't help more.

Hey Joanne Great video as usual we just used LinkedIn to complete a bond offering for 2 non-profits. Also, do you think executives should sell the rights to their LinkedIn page and all their Social media that promotes the company? LinkedIn has a lot of donor information that can be used by the nonprofit so I have instructed young attorneys to start to include that in employment contracts. The data from LinkedIn is what we refer to as infrastructure data that can help build nonprofits

Hey Wayne! I have never been a fan of nonprofits selling information. Our fundraising code of ethics also states that any relationship we create when working for a nonprofit stays with the nonprofit.

@@CauseSpecialist I think you misread or misunderstood my reply. Executives of nonprofits have their own personal account pages on LinkedIn. The nonprofits they work for need the ability to retain that information after they leave the organization. That executive has built up donor and investor information that can be used by their nonprofit to attract continued support, so you would want the executive to sell or give back that information to the nonprofit 🤣
