You would have to rebuild an old Holden six these days if you were after a good one, the old red motors are still cheaply available.on Gumtree but a good engine is getting pretty expensive. My dad only kept swapping them out of his HQ Kingswood for "Mates rates" ($0) because they' were costing him nothing,the 173 engine was out of his brother in laws (my uncle) old HQ Kingswood as he lived near the ocean 🌊 & its body rusted out due to the salt in the air. Now they're a lot more valuable than that,3 of the engines including the 173 cubic inch engine are buried at a local chook yard in my town. I tend to keep them (In my case the RB30 engines) since I tend to rebuild them & the LS1 V8 engine in my VY Commodore has done almost 366,000 kilometres,no need to replace them as often as his old Holden sixes were. His late fathers old VH Commodore which is parked in his shed (it's my brothers now),it still has the original blue 173 cubic inch engine fitted & it has done over 329,000 kilometres,it is spotless underneath the oil filler cap as my grandfather had it serviced regularly. It needs a reseal now at 38 years of age,it was dripping oil out of the rear main seal pretty badly !
