Wow! Very cool! Kudos to Dawn as well! What a great idea for that fiber optic - have tried holding ones fanned with clips, but they tend to fall out for me. Also, interested in your white paper background-never tried that.

Hi i am a csi student and we have to perfect our use of shutter speed, iso, and f number and i am having the hardest time memorizing, do you have any advice for me?
@LightPaintingPhotography21 күн бұрын
Shutter Speed or Exposure time is determined by the amount of ambient light in your scene. If you are in darkness this won't matter that much, if you are in an illuminated environment this will be your first setting to consider. ISO is your light sensitivity, I always start with this around 100-200. F-Stop is how wide the opening is that allows light into your camera. F2.8 will pick up much more light and give you a shallower depth of field, something like F16 will allow in less light and more of your image will be in focus. I like to start around ISO 100- F8

After finally "seeing the light" I am relatively new to light painting. As a Land/Seascape photographer for many years, I was looking for something different to incorporate into the genre. Through a roundabout way and the magic of KZfaq, I stumbled across Light Painting Brushes and Yourself, Jason Rinehart as well as Johnny Griffin. I have even bought some Colour Hoods and a Universal Connector and getting used to spending time in the dark by myself. Luckily, we don't have large bears here in Australia, crocodiles, snakes and spiders are another matter! Jason, your Light Painting tools are brilliant and You are an inspiration. Keep up the great work!

How do you get the subject to not look like a ghost. Whenever I try light painting, the subject always looks sort of blurry and faded
@LightPaintingPhotographyАй бұрын
the key to getting your subject in focus is to make sure they stay as still as possible and ONLY illuminate them one single time!

i have a nikon z6ii and a 14-30mm lens. i set it to manual focus, exposure of 2 seconds, and turn the ring after hitting the shutter. however the focus indicator didnt change at all on my screen. i reset all camera settings and its still the same. the same lens on my zfc works. indicator was focusing at the nearest point before shutter release and after the exposure ends, the indicator is at infinity. any advice from nikon users?

For me, personally, this was the best video I have ever watched to help me wrap my head around light painting and what can be achieved! I am a horrible artist, but I absolutely love the concept of light painting. To have a whole new avenue to create these types of photos, is a gift from the heavens!

I think, if you use high Aperture numbers on wideangle lens (24 or 28mm) you have to focus just once and keep it through all the scene. Becouse of deep depth of field allow this. Thank you for the tutorial anyway, that helps people (counting me) find something new and useful!

Can i do this with android?
@LightPaintingPhotography2 ай бұрын
Yes! You can capture a Light Painting with ANY camera capable of a Long Exposure. Many of the android phones have long exposure built into the camera and there are also Long Exposure Apps for Android Devices as well. The settings may be a bit different for different apps and phones.

What about for Android users. Any app recommendations
@Nareimooncatt2 ай бұрын
The Android phones I've used for the past several years have a manual mode in their stock app, so I haven't needed a third party app like in the video. Depending on the phone, you can usually get 20-30 seconds of exposure time (no bulb mode that I've found). If your phone doesn't have a manual mode, "Camera FV-5" is a pretty powerful app that has manual controls. There's a free version with limited resolution support, or paid with full resolution and possible RAW capture support if your phone is capable. I've found some phones to be firmware limited on exactly what it can do. I'm not aware of an app that does the live composites like in this video, but there may be something out there.
