@@MBCreationss Hi, I am serging on the BERNINA L890 combo machine. It is their top of the line serger that has both overlock and Coverstitch modes. The foot is a cording foot. Different brands of machines may recommend different feet for the technique. If you’re in the market for a serger, purchase one from a sewing machine dealer with a good reputation for service and knowledge. Sergers are available at all different price points so test drive a variety. It’s always a good idea to explore ones that might be slightly above what you want to spend just to find out what a few more dollars will add to features and extra presser feet. If you have friends in your area who sew,check with them on what dealers are reliable. I am a BERNINA Ambassador but don’t work for BERNINA and don’t receive any commission on sales. I think that their L850, L860 and L890 are the best sergers across the market. Let me know if you have more questions and thanks for watching!

@@barbaramason7636 Hi Barbara, do the wrapped edge in the same way as a rolled hem-one edge at a time. Chain off at the end of each edge, cut the thread and begins the next edge. If you use a 12-wt or 8-wt thread, secure the ends with a dot of the original Super Glue (that dries clear). Fray Check isn’t strong enough for thick threads. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

My t shirt has a center back seam with a button loop closure. Would it make sense for me to leave open center back seam instead of shoulder and use the excess binding on one side to make the loop for the button? I assume I would need to use narrow binding to do this. And how would I terminate the button side binding for neat finish?
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 18 күн бұрын
Hi, Yes, use the center back seam as your open seam. I would start and finish with an extra 1/4" - 1/2" of the binding strip from the edges. Probably 1/4" is enough to fold under even with the T-shirt open edge and either handstitch or machine stitch in place. For the loop closure, you could leave a longer strip and form a loop and stitch the raw end into the binding. But it might look bulky. I would make a skinnier loop and before stitching the binding end, tuck the loop into it then stitch. Let me know if that's clear or if you have more questions and thanks for watching!

I've been struggling with the 1" curved hem on T-shirts, using the paper-backed fusible web. Reading the comments may have given me the clue I need: to do the front & back separately, then join the side seams. THAT is where my big issue is because the curve goes from concave to convex & back again, making it impossible to get a good look (for me anyway). Your answer to the question clarified my thoughts. I have a GAP sweatshirt with that curved hem from years ago & I want to use it on all my T-shirts because I find it so flattering. I want it to work on jersey thin knits as well as heavier ones like the GAP shirt. Thanks for the video.
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 19 күн бұрын
Hi Jeanine, You're right, a curved hem is much more flattering than a straight one. If you're working on very lightweight, unstable knit fabric, you will love SSI Knit stay tape for the hem. It gives a lovely finish to any weight knit (or woven) and is undetectable from the public side. Here's another link that might be helpful: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNeeYLSYtNSvfaM.html. Hi Fran, I snap on the curve foot (C23 for the BERNINA L890) and lower the presser foot pressure to "1". The short foot and light pressure makes it much easier to steer the fabric and create smooth curves. Don't jerk the fabric or try to make sharp turns. It will cause skipped stitches. Thank you! I took 1 lesson for my coverstitch machine when I first got it, and have been using it blindly since then with the techniques I learned years ago. Your video and techniques are very helpful! I'm not sure if you can answer this question, but sometimes when I lift my presser foot up (ie: to reset the tension on the garment before a seam, as in your video), I lose a stitch in the looper underneath which then creates a source for all the threads to pull out later! It might be a question of my machine needing a tune-up, but it seemed to be doing it even when I first got it. However, it seems less likely to happen when I have my needle in a certain position (just barely inserted into the fabric). Is this something you've experienced? Do you have recommendations about where in the cycle it's best to raise the presser foot? I have a Baybylock Coverstitch 2 by the way. Thank you and please keep the videos coming. Subscribed!
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 25 күн бұрын
Hello! You are less likely to skip a stitch in coverstitch mode if you stop with the needle down. This is a common problem when you want the fabric to "relax" and not bunch up under the presser foot. Also using ELx705 needles is recommended and definitely get your machine tuned up if it's due. It will keep your stitching smoother and maintain your machine. Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to help. Thanks for watching and subscribing to Serger Tip Clips!
