Great video! That is a sad sound to hear, as this howling noise (known as the EMD Turbo Howl) is a bad sign of a turbocharger about to call it quits on an EMD 710 Engine, this has been happening for SD70ACCs and SD70M-2s and SD70ACes for a while now, hopefully this won't be an issue in the future, regardless of the locomotive dying, the sound is a heavenly noise to hear, it is very rare, and to be cherished, you are lucky to hear that, wonderful video man!

I caught the 2572 a few times with the howling noise, even one in a snowstorm. It's a great noise, but wondering how it was in the cab of the engine. The sound was so loud it was even drowning out the horn.

hey i drove my pickup truck on the low line back in 2006. is it possible to drive all the way to hancock or just orleans crossing? i was wanting to do this on my bicycle as i will be biketouring on the c&o canal nearby
@NS6677Ай бұрын
You can drive the entire length from Orleans to Paw Paw with no issues. Although I did destroy my tire at the end of the trip.

7:37 How long was that detector voice used for before they replaced it with the Micro Talker they use at 241 today?

Several years. And for a while, Track 2 used two different voices at the same time, although relayed one after another.

NS6677, why is it extremely rare to see foreign power leading a train on the Pittsburgh Line?
@NS66777 ай бұрын
Because of cab signals. Although CSXs has engines that have the same type of cab signals that NS uses. So some of their power can lead on the line.
@tom-and-mom7 ай бұрын
@@NS6677 Especially on CSX detours, right?
@NS66777 ай бұрын
Yes, its about a 50 50 shot that its pure CSX power. There was an oil train, I think in January of last year that has pure CSX power. Cause the NS power was ripped off for some reason, so there was CSX around that had a good cab signal leader, so it led.

any locked gates on the low line road ?
@NS66778 ай бұрын
all gates removed. You can access every location.
@hellgatebridge7 ай бұрын
that is good to know. I have rail fanned the cutoff since 1976. my favorite camp spot was Hansrote. as I recall the gates went up during the tunnel enlargements. one of the gates restricted access to the Kessler family cemetery which I think may be illegal. @@NS6677
