Not really, I mean they can a bit, but not like a motorised model or an RC tank, they'll just break.

I know theres a very little chance of this question being snwered on such an old video but can you do this if you dont own an airbrush?
@scalewarmachines
@scalewarmachines Күн бұрын
Answer inbound! The answer is, sort of, the principle's the same but naturally the effect tends to work best with thin sprayed on layers and that also gives a more realistic and faded paint effect which is then enhanced by the salt erosion. If brush painting though, you will naturally dislodge the salt also. Have a look at 'chipping fluid' videos or the 'hairspray technique' - that might work better. Videos on the channel showing it!

I have worked with both the Gaahleri Mobius .2 and .3 as well as with the Harder & Steenbeck Evolution .4 and Infinity .2 airbrushes (not the 2024 models) and the Badger Omni 4000 and 150. First the Mobius, I was able to work with them without issue, the .2 needs very thinned down paint indeed. Personally I prefer the .3 as it is much easier to work with and the MAC valve is not something I ever use so I prefer to not have it in my way. The .2 sprays finer but not even that much. Cleaning is them is OK, my biggest problem with them is the tolerance around the seals. This is not as good as with H&S and Badger. You can easily get paint into the whole brush if your not careful. I have them just a few months so I cant say anything about life expectancy but I think the H&S will outlive them for sure and the Badgers probably too. Second the H&S, both brushes are great, the quality of both is a step above the Gaahleri and the Badgers. The .4 nozzle is great and can spray about as fine as the Mobius .3. The .2 is just as with the Mobius only suitable for very thin paints. The Infinity .2 can spray a little finer than the Mobius .2. The evolution .4 is able to do almost all, from base coating to fine details to Varnish. Third Badger, I like the Omni 4000 much better then the 150. Again its very all round. My biggest problem with both badgers is cleaning them, I don't like it. The Omni 4000 is doable but needs a tool, the 150 is just so bad, I don't use it just so i don't need to clean it. Cleaning is why I got a H&S instead of the Iwata High End line, I don't want to fiddle with a micro nozzle and special tool. (The Eclipse is better it seems but its nozzle looks so much like the Omni I went with H&S) What would I recommend? Get the H&S Evo .4 for almost all your airbrush work. The quality of the brush is insane, cleaning it is so much better then the Omni 4000 the .4 can do almost everything well. Some people don't like the trigger though but that seems to be fixed with the Evo 2024. Yes its more expensive then the Gaahleri offering but as you can use it for 90% of the jobs its gonna be used a lot, and its money well spend. Now for extreme fine details when you have enough airbrush experience you can get the Mobius as a second brush. Its cheap and as you'll need it much less often paying a little less seems fine. If you don't care and want the finest sprays patterns and the best quality, and money is less important get the H&S Infinity .2 or .15 Another great option with great price/performance is GSI Creos / Mr Hobby PS-267/270/274/289. I have never used them so I cannot compare them to the above models but many people who have used them love them.

I kind of like it still, it's very compact and actually not that loud ---> because, top tip, put it on a cutting mat and it reduces the noise considerably!

What is used to create the shiney metalic parts on the wheels?...Really nice touch to see the areas on the wheels that are in contact with the tracks
@scalewarmachines
@scalewarmachines Ай бұрын
That is a good question, I made this a long time ago! I usually use the following for polished wheels, can't exactly remember in this case, but usually I go for either enamel, Humbrol Metalcote (burnishable), Hannants XtraColor Oily Steel, acryrilic/lacquer, Mr. Hobby Mr Metalizer (burnishable acrylic lacquer) or I apply gun metal pigments with a paper pencil. Here it was probably the latter from the Lifecolor range, though I am not 100% certain. Any of these techniques get that effect.

I love the dragon models but after 1 year the vinyl crap shit wheels just broke... Tip: Buy the Tamiya kit for 5 Euros additionally and just replace the shitty Dragon vinyl wheels with the 70s Tamiya wheels. Just have to cut the pointy wheel catch for the dragon wheels off and just glue the plastic wheels from Tamiya in place. And finito. There you have a pak that will last as long as you live. I hate these cheap ass vinyl wheels :) Grüße

so I have a quick question, when sealing my applied decals on an airplane, made a rookie mistake of not masking the clear plastic canopy leaving it dull without a glassy effect. I know Tamiya makes both lacquer and acrylic paint. which is best to brush on to revive the canopy. my inclination is to turn to a lacquer due to it applies strong and hard. don't want to damage to plastic or seal created by the glue. any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. in advance, thank you for your return reply. regards, brian

Tricky, never encountered this scenario. I’d say lacquer or a product like AK Interactive’s Gauzy agents could be the way to go. I’d replicate what happened on some scrap transparent plastic, like the canopy sprue and do some tests to see which method works best. Spraying will always be better than brush, but your tests will show you what works and give you a low risk way to find out.

Cool. Looks good for starters or those on a budget. I use Mr Hobby (.2, .3, .5) and Tamiya(.3). Trigger 0.5's are the way to go for primer. (Mr Color and SMS) Mr Hobby .5 trigger comes with the fan cap but the pistol grip is separate item. Tamiya's .3 trigger comes with the pistol grip (and it's the same one as Mr Hobby's). Weird. Thanks for the vids. Followed your work with Lifecolor and got some great results on Italian armour 1/35. Love the Tensacrom. And the Rust sets. More on using Lifecolor products would be great. Doing more non solvent paint as it's just a bit less of a hassle sometimes.(Hot weather and respirator mask in the shed.🥵) Cheers 🦘🦘🦘

I was taught - on a large scale model at least - to always use a new tin of paint (but I've not always - been lucky I guess). I have a GHAD39 and it's a good little AB for £35.00 I've a Sparmax GP50 - good trigger AB, nozzle a bit fiddly etc to fit/clean. I've several H&S and they're a joy to live with and use - the new range even more so I imagine. I've a couple of Paasche too, they're fairly robust, cost effective and fairly easy to live with. It'll be interesting to see how long Gaahleri products last - found a few bits of swarf in mine, not a huge issue, it's a back up AB at the end of the day (0.3 & 0.5). It did a nice job for you both though. Shame about the handle damage. Thanks for a great review and the 10% Discount too✌️💜👍😊

Nice review. The products of this brand are interesting, I will look at them if I ever damage one of my Iwata. I have the Neo TRN1, and for primer and big coverage, I will never use again a normal airbrush, so much more confortable. I would like to see the video on the paint removal, as I had several times issues (unfortunately also with varnish).
@scalewarmachines
@scalewarmachines 2 ай бұрын
Well if you own an Iwata, just get spares if it breaks, as the investment is already made. But these are neat airbrushes for the price in my opinion. I am planning an airbrush trouble-shooting video and it may feature in that or in the Panzer IV video - TBC. I own a NEO TRN1 and rarely use it, this is comparably better in my view.

I have been using the Swallowtail for a couple months now and I really like it. It isn't as high quality as a more premium brand, but that's to be expected for a ~$100 airbrush. The one complaint I have is that the mirror finish is already getting worn through on the smaller paint cup. Paint isn't sticking to it, but it's there.

If only using acrylic paints, is the hose needed? I'm thinking that those filters should catch all the paint particles. Am I wrong?
@scalewarmachines
@scalewarmachines 2 ай бұрын
Possibly, but it may be nice to get rid of some odour or vapour, depending on the paints or paint brand. Generally best to expel as much as you can (vapours/mist etc. - as well as paint particles) - if you can. Otherwise, this plus a mask should see you pretty well covered.
