I think you missed the mark with your comment. Vannda demonstrated in his songs and this interview that he is a BRIDGE between the Khmer and the Khmer diaspora outside of the country that may not speak Khmer fluently. Therefore, the interviewer shouldn’t need to speak Khmer as long as he understands Vannda.

you have to understand that many young khmer americans struggle with speaking the language because the emphasis growing up in america was to assimilate and that was by learning the english language, but with that came a sacrifice to our khmer language. and that's what makes vannda's music unique is that you don't have to fully understand each khmer word to relate to his music and understand his message. at the end of the day, whether you speak khmer or not, khmer blood still runs inside you, the same blood that built the angkor empire, the same blood that was spilled on the streets and jungles, and the same blood that now rises from the ashes.
