1988, i had an Ovation acoustic guitar that I had bought but after about a week or two, I hated it because it would keep sliding off my leg. So another musician I knew wanted it so he traded me his fostex X-26 and i was now able to recording my own shit, bounce tracks, etc.. I loved that thing

Apart from the cassette tray and the capstan motor, there is actually another motor in there, so does that have a belt too? 🤔

Why not just connect something to the machine switch that unit off set levels to 0 and record a dead signal into the tape. On play back you will hear nothing
@PhilipvanderMatten25 күн бұрын
I do not think that you got the grasp of the video. Maybe I did not explain it enough. A possible scenario is when you recorded a 2tr tape with butterfly heads, then record new audio over it using narrow track head (and accompanying narrow track erase head). Then there will be audio leftover. See the recent video from Foxbat.

Thanks for an enlightening video. I’m looking to buy my first Studer after owning Revox B77 HS, A77 and a G36 HS. How do you rank your Studers for sound quality?
@PhilipvanderMattenАй бұрын
Any Studer is a good choice. Every one has separate good and maybe some weaker points, but that can be found online easily. All sound fabulous. My ears are not capable of distinguishing the sound quality between them, when the machines are properly aligned and calibrated. Just go for the one you can get your hands on!

Hello Sir, I wanted to thank you for your work of archival on your website which helped me to find documentation on a calibration tape I found which is the AGFA Bezugsband 9,5 DIN 45513. I didn't have any papers in the box as you did! I was really surprised to see someone having this old of a tape with the exact same sitckers I have too :) I was wondering wether I could use this today as I don't have any 3.5ips calibration tape but I have no idea what the reference magnetic flux is nor the equalization but I assume this would be IEC (CCIR) since it was made in germany? Cheers from France, Martin
@PhilipvanderMatten2 ай бұрын
Hello Martin, Glad to be of service! The AGFA tape is 250 nWb/m reference fluxivity and it definitely is IEC. I have a large collection of (old) calibration tapes.

Such a gorgeous machine! I don't know that I'll ever be fortunate enough to own one. Before I leave this earth, I need to visit someone somewhere who has one. Somewhere in the eastern half of the United States would be best for me. On the other hand, I also want to visit continental Europe so that I can see the Alfa Romeo museum, and possibly the BMW and/or Porsche museums. So if that trip ever happens, I will include a visit to Walter Stutz's waVox museum. And/or north to The Netherlands to see your collection, Philip! 😎👍❤️

nice demonstration. You may want to power up the eraser a bit further away from the tape and make your revolutions around the reel a bit slower. One side of erasing should do the whole tape, no reason to flip tape over to do the other side unless you have 1 inch or 2 inch tape.

Ignore the manual, you have to calibrate 363 with the help of oscilloscope, that would help with not only the intensity of playback and recording green lights in the front, but also the actual numbers of input and output of the unit. What you are doing is NOT correct.

Hello mr Philip, please answer my question about this : If I make a mistake when recording, do I have to record everything again or is there a function to record only the part that made the mistake?

Yes, that is possible. Please read the user manual, where this and many, many other procedures are explained.👍

the equipment should please the eye, ear, touch and smell. When I was younger, I also believed in instruments, now hearing is important to me because tape recorders are used for listening. the recipient is ultimately a person, not a device. I once had an A80 and master tapes from which vinyl records were pressed. Now I'm 52 years old and like most people I can no longer hear 16 kHz even at a level of +20 dB ;-)

@PhilipvanderMatten6 ай бұрын
If it is dirty that can be cleaned 😆. More important is the state. The price is very steep but if the unit is very well maintained, works ok and the heads are ok, and if you can afford it, why not. But there are a lot of if's, if you know what I mean.
