I've set up the script and it works great, however I am trying to use this to inspect items but when I adjusted the main camera's near clipping plane, it no longer worked. Anyone know why?

Yeah, I had this issue working on a project and didn't know what caused it. I ended up moving everything into once scene to solve it.

Thanks, but it only works up to build 0.99. Example if the build is 0.111, the next build is 0.121 and not 0.112. ! Minor tweak to fix.

Everything works fine. But in case if some 3D object overlaps button, I still able to click that button an highlight that button. EventSystem.RaycastAll just don't see non-UI elements. And it looks weird when pointer passes through 3d object. What can I do in this case?

Hey Andrew, thank you so much for this video. It is incredibly helpful. I have a hypothetical question based on your method of getting the xrController value. If you wanted to specifically know if the firstInteractorSelecting is the left or right hand controller, how would you go about doing that?

I agree with all of the points here, except the part where you said to make clean code. Code becomes exponentially more difficult to manage the more connections there in between and inside scripts, but at the start of the development process there’s very few scripts so it’s faster to make “bad” code on the prototype because you get to know if the game is good or if it’s possible to make much faster. Great beard btw!
@JoaoVitor-qy3zeАй бұрын
You also learn what's more complex than expected, what's less complex than expected while prototyping and you also avoid overengineering things before you commit to an idea. There's no need to waste time writing clean code while prototyping if you're going to rewrite it anyway when developing in production.

This is really relatable. I have a friend who is a professional musician. A big part of his job is working with his own emotions and this is really encouraged in their (musicians) university here. My point is, i think its really important as an artist of any kind to know yourself and how you feel etc as so much of it shows in your work. Good luck with your project :)

The loop you've described really resonates with me. I thought it was burnout and I've been considering a career change. I know these aren't solutions to the core problem.

I've been attempting to change careers for awhile now. And, it's already been quite a journey, been tough trying to balance everything.

I'm glad you've made this video and that you're comfortable enough with talking about how these things can feel. I've told my wife many times that I wish for a line of work that is more straightforward, like a carpenter or perhaps someone who builds homes. I've said this in a joking manner, but at times I know she knew there was a seriousness underpinning my words. She usually responds with the idea of sunk cost. I've spent 16 years doing this and have built up a wide array of skills and knowledge. Even with that accumulation of institutional knowledge if I feel I have creative block or I'm not feeling the joy in what I'm doing, it's all for naught. I always fall back on game development because I do love creating things and telling stories. I'm at a point where I wonder if filmmaking would bring me more creative fulfillment, but I'm hesitant to enter another industry that is rife with instability. Anyways I'm glad you're here and I'm glad you're talking about these things and facing them. I'm trying to do the same. Listening to your struggles and visualizing that in the day to day was like looking into a mirror.

@@JamesArndt It's taken me a long time to "be myself/authentic," and I'm still trying to improve at it. Like, I eventually want to be able to turn on the camera and talk as if it's with a close friend. I also consider a different career entirely, but I really enjoy this line of work and the conveniences it offers. However, the creative block or lack of joy sometimes has driven me to try other things, as you've described. My current solution is to try other hobbies and weave them into videos. I want to show my life and the creative things I want to do, including game development. That said, my biggest obstacle has been my mental health, which is something I'm still figuring out. But thanks for taking the time to write this. As you can imagine, I was pretty apprehensive about making a video/series like this. So, words like this make it worthwhile.

Double-check that the variable is the right type of "Text", and that its also "Public". Then, ensure you're using Legacy UI Text and not Text Mesh Pro. You can check this by looking at the components on the Text GameObject.

Sooo.... all is working fine, but the dot is moving faster than the line. As if the line would get adjusted only the NEXT frame. Any idea why?
@pinienman4 ай бұрын
Well how I did it in the end: Uncheck "Use World Space" in the Line Renderer. That comes with a lot of adjustments in the code. But it works well for me. All fluid now.
Now I have 2 Kinects, I want to know if I can use 2 Kinects to increase the range.
