I had a similar dust intake problem with another vehicle. the solution is to take some filter fabric from a furnace forced air filter , ball it up and stuff it in the open end of the vent in the fuel filler cavity. Change the filter material each season.

@desertdudeoverland3 ай бұрын
265 75 16. Stock size. Man don’t put bigger tires. You cannot run bigger ones and you don’t really need too because it will ruin the gas mileage and handling of the truck. Plus it will rub and pull your wheel well plastics off. I have the stock wheels. Everything is stock on the truck.

For the life of me was looking for an integrated handle to rotate the jack. That was how my other jacks were using. Managed to get the tire off by using a screwdriver to rotate the jack stand to get the flat tire off. Slow going but got it done. Didn't realized it was the long extension with the lug nut wrench combo. Ended up using that combo to get the spare tire off through that little slot above the license plate and must aim exactly. Getting under the truck helps, that's before removing the flat tire to be safe.

@desertdudeoverland4 ай бұрын
There are no deals anymore when you buy new vehicles. The days of talking down the price from msrp are over for now. I’d say you got a pretty good deal considering it’s a 2023 model. Better than $54,000 like the one in the video. Those salesman are real good at the dealership that’s why I stay away. I don’t want that buyers remorse ever again.

wondering if you had the chance and you could actually find one, would you trade it for a 6 speed manual version?
@desertdudeoverland4 ай бұрын
They are almost impossible to find now. I wouldn’t trade in my 5 speed auto for one but I would buy one if I was in the market and didn’t own a frontier already. The automatic is so much easier to drive especially off-roading. You just leave it in 1st gear going up and down hills and it just drives itself.

My purge valve clogged up at 800 miles after a whole new canister and valve were swapped out. I was thinking about attaching a hose to it and running it up somewhere. Would that stop it or would the vent in the gas cap area still cause the issue???
@desertdudeoverland5 ай бұрын
I’m thinking about doing that too. Instead of running the hose to the gas cap maybe run it into the bed throw the hole the bed has in the vertical front wall. Im considering doing this because the design is just terrible. I have a dirtbike air filter under my gas lid right now.

9,000 miles on my 23 Pro-4x and I started having this issue. My dealerships says Nissan won't cover it under warranty again, to just ignore the check engine light. 40k off-road pickup done in by dust. Rediculous.
@desertdudeoverland5 ай бұрын
@mikeberger8881 yeah warranties are a massive scam. Unfortunately I paid 3,400$ for the extended warranty I never used. Stay away from the dealer. They just want you to buy a new truck. And yeah the evap canister is a terrible design for an off-road truck.

I’ve done my fair bit of research and determined that the frontier is better in almost every way. Even reliability and build quality which Toyota is supposed to be famous for. But the 3rd generation Tacoma has a very very common oil leak on the timing chain cover that requires engine removal to fix. Also a coolant bypass on the rear of the engine can crack as it’s made of plastic and cause another $4000+ job to fix. Not to mention the transmission shifts like crap and IMO the ride quality is much better in the Fronty. As far as I’m concerned the VQ40 doesn’t have anything like that. Then you talk about the seating position, comfort, cost, and power/torque and the Frontier still wins. About the only thing the Tacoma has going for it is a more modern/higher quality interior and a slight edge on fuel mileage (although everyone in the Tacoma forums will swear the 3rd gen tacos fuel mileage isn’t that great). Also the aftermarket mod support is much better on the Tacoma. Frontier > Tacoma and this is coming from a lifelong Toyota fan.
@desertdudeoverland5 ай бұрын
I grew up with Toyotas as well man. Don’t forget the Tacoma had drum brakes up until the new 2024 model that just came out. But now it has a 4 cylinder engine lol. The 2024 frontier has a very nice interior. There are some companies coming out with mods now. I want to get my hands on some of the new mods

She looks awesome and thanks for the tire recommendation. Good to have you back and may your future be dramma free. Question, when Im driving out, there is a rushing fluid sound that seems to eminate from below the area of the dashboard. Is that normal to the pro4x? (2020 pro4x)
@user-fz2ul7wl2d6 ай бұрын
What is it ? I didn't see what this box does.???????????? I own a 2018 Pro4X F Frontier.
@desertdudeoverland6 ай бұрын
So it’s basically an air filter for the gas tank to let the fumes out so your truck doesn’t explode like a bomb. Theres some kind of vacuum system going on. Long story short, the charcoal gets saturated and no longer vents out from under the gas cap thus giving you a check engine light and gas spitting back out at the gas station during fill ups. You will have a hard time getting gas someday and you’ll know how to fix the problem now.
@MrVegasTube6 ай бұрын

Just FYI you always want to remove the fill plug before you remove the drain plug. If the fill plug is seized, you're draining your fluid with no way to get it back in and no way to move your car to get it fixed besides towing it.
