Great tutorial. It’s so easy. Thanks for sharing. 😃

This is infect skirt pleating not Kilt pleating. Correct Kilt pleats should overlap each other a bit in the inside and should be topstitched. Even if you don't topstitch the pleats they still need to overlap inside.

How are you doing the elastic? Are you pushing it against the inner seam between the two pieces of fabric. Are you sewing over it, or beside it, as you can’t see the elastic as it is being sewn in. I haven’t wuite grasped what’s being done.

I have made one of these but I have used the same measurement in circumference as in length: so my circ is 61 cm and I used the same for the length or height as well.

I might be the only one confused by the instructions. You said sew lengthwise across the fold using the selvage at the hem, but if the selvage is the hem, that is not lengthwise or wide enough . Later you said you were making two, which totally threw me off as to how you are folding it in the first place. From what I saw, you had 40" wide fabric, folded lengthwise, but sewed measured away from the. Non folded egde at 1" allowance plus half the circumference to the wearers head. But that is not wide enough. So, I'm not clear on a number of details. Watched twice and still confused. Which edge is folded? Which fold do I skip to only make one? How is the selvage them hem when that is not wide enough for a 24" head? Why did you not show turning it inside out, a tiny detail easy to miss? You said to taper after a bit, but how much and how far along? Hope I'm not dense, but I was very confused.

I just want to say thank you so much for this amazing video. You are so lovely to watch and listen to and I made my first tam and I couldn’t be more in love with it. Happy Thanksgiving from across the pond.

Have made 2 steel wool pin cushions a while ago now. I used fine stainless steel wool. Made one from an egg cup and the other from a plastic mug for my wife Margaret and one of her friends.

Ahhhhh! Yes! “The pattern is going to come from the cloth available!” Thanks! I feel like so many sewing opportunities can be made without ‘pre-cut’ fabric. However, I am new to sewing, so need videos like yours to show me the considerations that are actually important!

I so appreciate how simple and direct your tutorials are! I found you while looking for a project bag. So far I’ve watched this tutorial and the one with bamboo handles. This is the sewing I want to do! Not being ‘precious’ about measuring and placement, but making it work! Thanks!

Freakin delightful. Love that the author has knocked the unrealistic bully that is exacting perfection to the curb. We have a simple breakdown of making a tam and a lovely, wearable item in the end. Thank you!

I wish you had put the camera closer to the material and machine when you sewed the circles of both hats---I didn't quite see how you did that---that seems like the hardest part----

Love the realism, not everybody has a 'studio' and its not needed! This lady uses her skills to make a perfectly serviceable item and proves anyone can sew!

This is hilarious I thought it must be an April Fool's joke. Haha my 6 year old granddaughter could do better. I've never seen a pattern cut out like this before, just chop it off here and there and don't even bother to measure anything!
@mjremy26053 жыл бұрын
The machine in video seems to be straining by the sound. Needs cleaning and oiling up. Be sure to open it up and clean out the lint thoroughly. Its not running with ease but working inefficiently by the sound. Its groaning not humming. The finish was sloppy. A little more detail on seams, back tacking, would have been pleasing. Don't speak when sewing, its noisy and we cannot hear. A collar mic would be useful. Cutting the cloth with no pinning was very sloppy work. Do better.
